Psalm 42:5

Psalm 42:5

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

a. [NIV] “Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and”

b. [NASB] “Why are you *in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? *Hope in God, for I shall *again praise *Him For the *help of His presence.”

1. “Why art thou cast down, O my soul?...”

a. cast down [7817 * shachach] [Strong: a primitive root; to sink or depress (reflexive or causative):--bend, bow (down), bring (cast) down, couch, humble self, be (bring) low, stoop.]

2. “…and why art thou disquieted in me?...”

a. disquieted [1993 * hamah] [Strong: a primitive root (Compare  1949); to make a loud sound like Engl. "hum"); by implication, to be in great commotion or tumult, to rage, war, moan, clamor:--clamorous, concourse, cry aloud, be disquieted, loud, mourn, be moved, make a noise, rage, roar, sound, be troubled, make in tumult, tumultuous, be in an uproar.]

3. “…for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.”

b. help [3444 * yeshuw’ah] [Strong:  salvation, deliverance, welfare, prosperity, deliverance,  salvation (by God), victory.]

c. countenance [6440 * paniym] [Gesenius: face.]

1). There is victory, deliverance, salvation in his countenance, in his face.

a). 2 Corinthians 4:3-6 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:
In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
For we preach not ourselves, but Christ Jesus the Lord; and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake.
For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

b). As we live our lives in obedience to Jesus Christ, the glory that is emanating from us is the light and the glory of God’s salvation.
