Isaiah 5:12

Isaiah 5:12

And the harp, and the viol, the tabret, and pipe, and wine, are in their feasts: but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.

a. NLT: They furnish wine and lovely music at their grand parties—lyre and harp, tambourine and flute—but they never think about the LORD or notice what he is doing.

b. NIV: They have harps and lyres at their banquets, pipes and timbrels and wine, but they have no regard for the deeds of the LORD, no respect for the work of his hands.

c. YLT: And harp, and psaltery, tabret, and pipe, And wine, have been their banquets, And the work of Jehovah they behold not, Yea, the work of His hands they have not seen.

2. “…but they regard not the work of the LORD, neither consider the operation of his hands.”

1). A good example of regarding the work of the Lord is in Psalms.

a). Psalm 92:1-6 It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:
92:2 To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,
92:3 Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.
92:4 For thou, LORD, hast made me glad through thy work: I will triumph in the works of thy hands.
92:5 O LORD, how great are thy works! and thy thoughts are very deep.
92:6 A brutish man knoweth not; neither doth a fool understand this.

b). These individuals are brutish and fools.

1). These people are not singing about God, considering that alcohol is in the parties, they are probably singing about strange women and they are singing about perverse things.

a). Proverbs 23:29-35 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
23:30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
23:32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
23:33 Thine eyes shall behold strange women, and thine heart shall utter perverse things.
23:34 Yea, thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
23:35 They have stricken me, shalt thou say, and I was not sick; they have beaten me, and I felt it not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.

2 Kings 3:15

But now bring me a minstrel. And it came to pass, when the minstrel played, that the hand of the LORD came upon him.

a. NLT: Now bring me someone who can play the harp.” While the harp was being played, the powerfn of the LORD came upon Elisha,

b. NIV: But now bring me a harpist.” While the harpist was playing, the hand of the LORD came on Elisha

c. YLT: and now, bring to me a minstrel; and it hath been, at the playing of the minstrel, that the hand of Jehovah is on him,

1). The link between anointed music and the moving of the Spirit of God is clearly revealed in Scripture.

16:15 And Saul's servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee.
16:16 Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well.
16:17 And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me.
16:18 Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the Lord is with him.
16:19 Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep.
16:20 And Jesse took an ass laden with bread, and a bottle of wine, and a kid, and sent them by David his son unto Saul.
16:21 And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.
16:22 And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Let David, I pray thee, stand before me; for he hath found favour in my sight.
16:23 And it came to pass, when the evil spirit from God was upon Saul, that David took an harp, and played with his hand: so Saul was refreshed, and was well, and the evil spirit departed from him.

1). During the time of Elijah there were ministry schools, schools of the prophets located in Bethel and Jericho.

a). 2 Kings 2:3 And the sons of the prophets that were at Bethel came forth to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he said, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

b). 2 Kings 2:5 And the sons of the prophets that were at Jericho came to Elisha, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Lord will take away thy master from thy head to day? And he answered, Yea, I know it; hold ye your peace.

2). Gordon Lindsay, Old Testament Series, Volume 17: One of the great achievements of Samuel’s ministry was the restoration of the ministry of the supernatural…Samuel realized the time would come when he would pass from the scene and others must carry on. He felt that it was all-important that God raise up other men who had a supernatural ministry. For this reason he founded the school of the prophets, and institution that carried on for many hundreds of years and played an important part of Israel’s destiny.

3). We first see this school of the prophets when Saul was first anointed King of Israel. We also see how music was a vital part of the prophetic ministry.

a). 1 Samuel 10:1-10   Then Samuel took a vial of oil, and poured it upon his head, and kissed him, and said, Is it not because the Lord hath anointed thee to be captain over his inheritance?
10:2 When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel's sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
10:3 Then shalt thou go on forward from thence, and thou shalt come to the plain of Tabor, and there shall meet thee three men going up to God to Bethel, one carrying three kids, and another carrying three loaves of bread, and another carrying a bottle of wine:
10:4 And they will salute thee, and give thee two loaves of bread; which thou shalt receive of their hands.
10:5 After that thou shalt come to the hill of God, where is the garrison of the Philistines: and it shall come to pass, when thou art come thither to the city, that thou shalt meet a company of prophets coming down from the high place with a psaltery, and a tabret, and a pipe, and a harp, before them; and they shall prophesy:
10:6 And the Spirit of the Lord will come upon thee, and thou shalt prophesy with them, and shalt be turned into another man.
10:7 And let it be, when these signs are come unto thee, that thou do as occasion serve thee; for God is with thee.
10:8 And thou shalt go down before me to Gilgal; and, behold, I will come down unto thee, to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings: seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and shew thee what thou shalt do.
10:9 And it was so, that when he had turned his back to go from Samuel, God gave him another heart: and all those signs came to pass that day.
10:10 And when they came thither to the hill, behold, a company of prophets met him; and the Spirit of God came upon him, and he prophesied among them.

4). The place of Godly anointed music in the life of a believer cannot be over emphasized, I believe it is vital to our relationship with God and will provide an avenue for the Spirit of God to touch our lives and speak to us and allow us to fellowship with Him.

Galatians 5:6

Galatians 5:6

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.

a. NLT: For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.

Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace.

2.  “…ye are fallen from grace.”

1). We cannot rely on works of obedience to save us. It is only through believeing and receiving what Christ di for us at the cross that justifies us.

Galatians 5:3

Galatians 5:3

For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law.

a. NLT: I’ll say it again. If you are trying to find favor with God by being circumcised, you must obey every regulation in the whole law of Moses.

b. NIV: Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law.

c. YLT: and I testify again to every man circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law;

d. Amplified Bible Classic:  I once more protest and testify to every man who receives circumcision that he is under obligation and bound to practice the whole of the Lawand its ordinances.

1. “For I testify again to every man that is circumcised…”

1) He is speaking to those who are trusting in circumcision for their righteousness. I believe the New Living Translation in the previous verse and the current verse nail it.

1). If we are trusting in ourselves doing one portion of the law we are in bondage to to all the law.

1). Through disobedience we can place ourselves back into bondage, it is our choice to remain untangled and become tangled again in bondage.

a). Romans 6:16-18  Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?
6:17 But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.

1). Vincent Word Studies: We might have expected, from what precedes, under the flesh. But the law and the flesh are in the same category. Circumcision was a requirement of the law, and was a work of the flesh. The ordinances of the law were ordinances of the flesh (Hebrews 9:10, Hebrews 9:13); the law was weak through the flesh (Romans 8:3). See especially, Galatians 3:2-6. In Philippians 3:3 ff. Paul explains his grounds for confidence in the flesh as his legal righteousness. The whole legal economy was an economy of the flesh as distinguished from the Spirit.

2). Though most teach this is referring to the Mosaic law, but I have to also figure in “the law of sin and death”.
