1 Corinthians 11:24

1 Corinthians 11:24

And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.

a. NLT: and gave thanks to God for it. Then he broke it in pieces and said, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this to remember me.”

b. NIV: and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.”

c. YLT: and having given thanks, he brake, and said, 'Take ye, eat ye, this is my body, that for you is being broken; this do ye -- to the remembrance of me.'

d. Amplified Bible: And when He had given thanks, He broke [it] and said, Take, eat. This is My body, which is broken for you. Do this to call Me [affectionately] to remembrance.

e. Worrell Translation: and, having given thanks, He broke it, and said, “This is My body which is for you; this do in remembrance of Me.”

1. “And when he had given thanks…”

b. when he had given thanks [2168 * eucharisteo] [Strong: from 2170; to be grateful, i.e. (actively) to express gratitude (towards); specially, to say grace at a meal:--(give) thank(-ful, -s).]

3. “…which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.”

h. remembrance [364 * anamnesis][Strong: recollection:--remembrance (again).]

1). This word is only used 4 times in the NT three of them are about communion and the other about remembering their own sin under the OT when offering sacrifices. Now, when taking communion we are to remember Jesus, what he did for us baring our sin and sickness in his body, celebrating all that He accomplished for us in His death and resurrection. In doing this we can by faith appropriate healing and wholeness for us.

a). 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.

b). Isaiah 53:4, 5 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.
