Isaiah 11:5

And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins, and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.

a. ASV: And righteousness shall be the girdle of his waist, and faithfulness the girdle of his loins.

b. YLT: And righteousness hath been the girdle of his loins, And faithfulness -- the girdle of his reins.

c. Classic Amplified: And righteousness shall be the girdle of His waist and faithfulness the girdle of His loins.

d. Septuagint: And he shall have his loins girt with righteousness, and his sides clothed with truth.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: Righteousness will be the girdle round his loins, and faith will be the girdle round his waist.

1. “And righteousness shall be the girdle of his loins…”

a. [And] righteousness [Strong: 6664 tsedeq, tseh'-dek; from H6663; the right (natural, moral or legal); also (abstractly) equity or (figuratively) prosperity:—× even, (× that which is altogether) just(-ice), (un-)right(-eous) (cause, -ly, -ness).]

b. [shall] be [Strong: 1961 hayah haw-yaw a primitive root (Compare 1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary):--beacon, X altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, + follow, happen, X have, last, pertain, quit (one-)self, require, X use.]

c. [the] girdle [Strong: 232 ʼêzôwr, ay-zore'; from H246; something girt; a belt, also a band:—girdle.]

d. [of his] loins [Strong: 4975 môthen, mo'-then; from an unused root meaning to be slender; properly, the waist or small of the back; only in plural the loins:— greyhound, loins, side.]

2. “...and faithfulness the girdle of his reins.”

a. [and] faithfulness [Strong: 530 ʼĕmûwnâh, em-oo-naw'; or (shortened) אֱמֻנָה ʼĕmunâh; feminine of H529; literally firmness; figuratively security; morally fidelity:—faith(-ful, -ly, -ness, (man)), set office, stability, steady, truly, truth, verily.]

b. [the] girdle [Strong: 232 ʼêzôwr, ay-zore'; from H246; something girt; a belt, also a band:—girdle.]

c. [of his] reins [Strong: 2504 châlâts, khaw-lawts'; from H2502 (in the sense of strength); only in the dual; the loins (as the seat of vigor):—loins, reins.]

1). The word of God consistently describes virtues as clothing. Righteousness and faithfulness are part of the ruling of Christ Jesus, he will wear them as he orders His government and His judgment. In the New Covenant we are to be clothed as well.

a). Ephesians 6:10-17 Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
6:11 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
6:14 Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
6:15 And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
6:17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

b). Romans 13:12 The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.

c). Ephesians 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

d). Colossians 3:10 And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:
