Jude 18

How that they told you there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.

a. NLT: They told you that in the last times there would be scoffers whose purpose in life is to satisfy their ungodly desires.

b. NIV: They said to you, “In the last times there will be scoffers who will follow their own ungodly desires.”

c. YLT: That they said to you, that in the last time there shall be scoffers, after their own desires of impieties going on,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: They told you beforehand, In the last days (in the end time) there will be scoffers [who seek to gratify their own unholy desires], following after their own ungodly passions.

e. Worrell Translation: That they were wont to say to you: In thelast time there will be mockers, walking according to their own ungodly desires.

f. Wuest Translation: That they were saying to you, In the last time there shall be mockers ordering their course of conduct in accordance with their own passionate cravings which are destitute of reverential awe towards God.

1. “How that they told you…”

d. you [Strong: 5213 humin hoo-min' irregular dative case of 5210; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).]

1). Here, Jude is setting himself apart from the apostles by writing, “How that they told you…” This Jude was the half brother of Jesus as was James the leader of the Jerusalem church.

2. “…there should be mockers in the last time, who should walk after their own ungodly lusts.”

b. mockers [Strong: 1703 empaiktes emp-aheek-tace' from 1702; a derider, i.e. (by implication) a false teacher:--mocker, scoffer.] [Zodhiates: A mocker, scoffer, spoken of imposters, false prophets.] [Note: The Greek word for “mockers” and “scoffers” is empaiktes.]

i. ungodly [Strong: 763 asebeia as-eb'-i-ah from 765; impiety, i.e. (by implication) wickedness:--ungodly(-liness).]

j. lusts [Strong: 1939 epithumia ep-ee-thoo-mee'-ah from 1937; a longing (especially for what is forbidden):--concupiscence, desire, lust (after).]

1). 2 Timothy 3:1-9 “This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontent, fierce, despisers of those who are good,
3:4 Traitors, heady, high-minded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; [cp. Luke 8:14 & Mark 4:18, 19]
3:5 Having a from of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
3:6 For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts,
3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.
3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.
3:9 But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.”

a). These religious people will have a form of godliness.

2). Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses with satanic miracles, Exodus 7:11, 12, 22. These will also.

3). 2 Peter 3:1-4 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:
3:3 Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
3:4 And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning?

a). The context is pointing to the days immediately before the second coming of Christ.

b). Here the coming of Christ is mocked which implies that there will be those preaching the soon coming of Christ! Also as I mentioned before, in my opinion Jude 8-10 could be mentioning what Revelation 14:6-11 speaks about the angelic preaching. From what Jude is writing, these ungodly preachers will speak against everything that’s holy, the deity of Christ, the blood atonement, a holy life lived for God, holy angels, and the second advent.
