Jude 22

Jude 22

And of some have compassion, making a difference:

a. NLT: And you must show mercy to those whose faith is wavering.

b. NIV: Be merciful to those who doubt;

c. YLT: And to some be kind, judging thoroughly,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: And refute [so as to] convict some who dispute with you, and on some have mercy who waver and doubt.

e. Worrell Translation: And on some have compassion, while contending with you.

f. Wuest Translation: And on some, on the one hand, be showing mercy, on those who are in doubt.

g. Peshitta Eastern Text: And on some of them whoever they may be, heap coals of fire.

1. “And of some have compassion, making a difference:”

a. And [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. [Strong: 3303 men men a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with 1161 (this one, the former, etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.]

c. of some [Strong: 3739 hos hos, including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]

d. have compassion [Strong: 1653 eleeo el-eh-eh'-o from 1656; to compassionate (by word or deed, specially, by divine grace):--have compassion (pity on), have (obtain, receive, shew) mercy (on).]

e. making a difference [Strong: 1252 diakrino dee-ak-ree'-no from 1223 and 2919; to separate thoroughly, i.e. (literally and reflexively) to withdraw from, or (by implication) oppose; figuratively, to discriminate (by implication, decide), or (reflexively) hesitate:--contend, make (to) differ(-ence), discern, doubt, judge, be partial, stagger, waver.]

1). The translations on this verse are all over the map. Having compassion will make the difference, and differentiating on how you address persons, some with compassion some with fear.
