a. 1). The identity of the dragon is clear, he is Satan.

1). Perry Stone: These seven heads are believed to be seven major prophetic empires that have impacted Israel, the Jews and Jerusalem. In order they are Egypt, Assyria, Babylon, Media-Persia, Greece, Rome, and a final seventh empire that continues  for a short time. It must be noted that these empires, while under the influence of Satan, were also influenced by strong principality spirits (Ephesians 6:12), two of which Daniel mentions as the prince of Greece and the prince of Persia (Daniel 10:20).
