a. NLT: And what union can there be between God’s temple and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God said: “I will live in them and walk among them. I will be their God, and they will be my people.

b. NIV: What agreement is there between the temple of God and idols? For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

1. “And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols?”

g. idols [Strong: 1497 eidolon i'-do-lon from 1491; an image (i.e. for worship); by implication, a heathen god, or (plural) the worship of such:--idol.]

1). There is never any agreement with the temple of God and idols. Manasseh was the most wicked king of Judah, it was because of him that Judah and Jerusalem were destroyed by Babylon in 2 Kings 24:1-4. He also built idols inside the Temple of the one true God!

a). 2 Chronicles 33:1-7 Manasseh was twelve years old when he began to reign, and he reigned fifty and five years in Jerusalem:
33:2 But did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, like unto the abominations of the heathen, whom the LORD had cast out before the children of Israel.
33:3 For he built again the high places which Hezekiah his father had broken down, and he reared up altars for Baalim, and made groves, and worshipped all the host of heaven, and served them.
33:4 Also he built altars in the house of the LORD, whereof the LORD had said, In Jerusalem shall my name be for ever.
33:5 And he built altars for all the host of heaven in the two courts of the house of the LORD.
33:6 And he caused his children to pass through the fire in the valley of the son of Hinnom: also he observed times, and used enchantments, and used witchcraft, and dealt with a familiar spirit, and with wizards: he wrought much evil in the sight of the LORD, to provoke him to anger.
33:7 And he set a carved image, the idol which he had made, in the house of God, of which God had said to David and to Solomon his son, In this house, and in Jerusalem, which I have chosen before all the tribes of Israel, will I put my name for ever:

2. “…For ye are the temple of the living God…”

a. For [Strong: 1063 gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.]

26:12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

2). Paul basically said the same thing in 1 Corinthians, and was also applying it to living a pure life before God.

a). 1 Corinthians 6:15-20 Know ye not that your bodies are the members of Christ? shall I then take the members of Christ, and make them the members of an harlot? God forbid.
5:16 What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh.
5:17 But he that is joined unto the Lord is one spirit.
5:18 Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.
5:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?
5:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
