Galatians 1:20

Galatians 1:20

Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

a. NLT: I declare before God that what I am writing to you is not a lie.

b. NIV: I assure you before God that what I am writing you is no lie.

c. YLT: And the things that I write to you, lo, before God -- I lie not;

d. Amplified Bible Classic:  Now [note carefully what I am telling you, for it is the truth], I write this as if I were standing before the bar of God; I do not lie.

e. Worrell Translation: Now as to the things I am writing to you, before God, I am not lying.

f. Wuest Translation: But the things which I am writing to you, behold, in the sight of God, I am not lying.

1. “Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.”

a. Now [Strong: 1161 de deh a primary particle (adversative or continuative); but, and, etc.:--also, and, but, moreover, now (often unexpressed in English).]

b. the things which [Strong: 3739 hos hos, including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]

c. I write [Strong: 1125 grapho graf'-o a primary verb; to "grave", especially to write; figuratively, to describe:--describe, write(-ing, -ten).]

d. unto you [Strong: 5213 humin hoo-min' irregular dative case of 5210; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).]

e. behold [Strong: 2400 idou id-oo' second person singular imperative middle voice of 1492; used as imperative lo!; --behold, lo, see.]

f. before [Strong: 1799 enopion en-o'-pee-on neuter of a compound of 1722 and a derivative of 3700; in the face of (literally or figuratively):--before, in the presence (sight) of, to.

g. God [Strong: 2316 theos theh'-os of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]

h. [Strong: 3754 horothesia hor-oth-es-ee'-ah from a compound of the base of 3725 and a derivative of 5087; a limit-placing, i.e. (concretely) boundary-line:--bound.]

i. I lie [Strong: 5574 pseudomai psyoo'-dom-ahee middle voice of an apparently primary verb; to utter an untruth or attempt to deceive by falsehood:--falsely, lie.]

j. not [Strong: 3756 ou oo, also (before a vowel) ouk ook, and (before an aspirate) ouch ookh a primary word; the absolute negative (compare 3361) adverb; no or not:--+ long, nay, neither, never, no (X man), none, (can-)not, + nothing, + special, un(-worthy), when, + without, + yet but.]

1). Paul was of course not lying because he was writing under the inspiration of the Holy Ghost. He was writing Scripture. Peter declares that Paul’s epistles are on equal standing with other Scripture.

a). 2 Peter 3:15, 16 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;
3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

2). Other passages that would shed insight to the weight of what the Apostle Paul wrote.

a). 2 Timothy 3:16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

b). 2 Peter 1:20, 21 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
1:21 For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.

3). Man would not lie under the inspiration of God because God would not lie.

a). Numbers 23:19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?

b). Titus 1:2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began;
