Galatians 1:11



Galatians 1:11

But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

a. NLT: Dear brothers and sisters, I want you to understand that the gospel message I preach is not based on mere human reasoning.

b. NIV: I want you to know, brothers and sisters, that the gospel I preached is not of human origin.

c. YLT: And I make known to you, brethren, the good news that were proclaimed by me, that it is not according to man,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: For I want you to know, brethren, that the Gospel which was proclaimed and made known by me is not man’s gospel [a human invention, according to or patterned after any human standard].

e. Worrell Translation: For I make known to you, brethren, that the Gospel which was proclaimed by me is not according to man;

f. Wuest Translation: For I make known to you, brethren, the message which was announced as good news by me, that it is not as to its nature, human.

1. “But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.”

b. [I] certify [Strong: 1107 gnorizo gno-rid'-zo from a derivative of 1097; to make known; subjectively, to know:--certify, declare, make known, give to understand, do to wit, wot.] [Zodhiates: Generally to make known… It is also used in the sense of a teacher who unfolds divine things.]

c. you [Strong: 5213 humin hoo-min' irregular dative case of 5210; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).]

d. brethren [Strong: 80 adephos ad-el-fos' from 1 (as a connective particle) and delphus (the womb); a brother (literally or figuratively) near or remote (much like 1):--brother.]

e. that [Strong: 3754 hoti hot'-ee neuter of 3748 as conjunction; demonstrative, that (sometimes redundant); causative, because:--as concerning that, as though, because (that), for (that), how (that), (in) that, though, why.]

f. the [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

g. gospel [Strong: 2098 euaggelion yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on from the same as 2097; a good message, i.e. the gospel:--gospel.]

h. which [Strong: 3588 ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.]

i. was preached [Strong: 2097 euaggelizo yoo-ang-ghel-id'-zo from 2095 and 32; to announce good news ("evangelize") especially the gospel:--declare, bring (declare, show) glad (good) tidings, preach (the gospel).]

j. of [Strong: 5259 hupo hoop-o' a primary preposition; under, i.e. (with the genitive case) of place (beneath), or with verbs (the agency or means, through); (with the accusative case) of place (whither (underneath) or where (below) or time (when (at)):--among, by, from, in, of, under, with. In the comparative, it retains the same general applications, especially of inferior position or condition, and specially, covertly or moderately.]

1). Here, Paul is beginning the discourse of how he received the Gospel through revelation of Jesus Christ. He begins by saying the gospel is not after man, he did not receive it from man.
