Genesis 21:2

Genesis 21:2

For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him.

a. NLT: She became pregnant, and she gave birth to a son for Abraham in his old age. This happened at just the time God had said it would.

b. NIV: Sarah became pregnant and bore a son to Abraham in his old age, at the very time God had promised him.

c. YLT: and Sarah conceiveth, and beareth a son to Abraham, to his old age, at the appointed time that God hath spoken of with him;

d. Amplified Bible: For Sarah became pregnant and bore Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time God had told him.

e. Septuagint: And she conceived and bore to Abraam a son in old age, at the set time according as the Lord spoke to him.

1. “For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age…”

a. For Sarah Sarah [8283 * Sarah] [Strong:  the same as 8282; Sarah, Abraham's wife:--Sarah.]

b. conceived {2029 * harah] [Strong: a primitive root; to be (or become) pregnant, conceive (literally or figuratively):--been, be with child, conceive, progenitor.]

c. and bare [3205 * yalad] [Strong: a primitive root; to bear young; causatively, to beget; medically, to act as midwife; specifically, to show lineage:--bear, beget, birth((-day)), born, (make to) bring forth (children, young), bring up, calve, child, come, be delivered (of a child), time of delivery, gender, hatch, labour, (do the office of a) midwife, declare pedigrees, be the son of, (woman in, woman that) travail(-eth, -ing woman).]

d. Abraham [85 * ‘Abraham] [Strong: contracted from 1 and an unused root (probably meaning to be populous); father of a multitude; Abraham, the later name of Abram:--Abraham.]

2. “…at the set time of which God had spoken to him.”

a. at the set time [4150 * mow’ed] [Strong: from 3259; properly, an appointment, i.e. a fixed time or season; specifically, a festival; conventionally a year; by implication, an assembly (as convened for a definite purpose); technically the congregation; by extension, the place of meeting; also a signal (as appointed beforehand):--appointed (sign, time), (place of, solemn) assembly, congregation, (set, solemn) feast, (appointed, due) season, solemn(-ity), synogogue, (set) time (appointed).]

1). God had spoken to Abraham and Sarah concerning the timing of the birth of Isaac.

a). Genesis 17:21  But my covenant will I establish with Isaac, which Sarah shall bear unto thee at this set time in the next year.

b). Genesis 18:9, 10 And they said unto him, Where is Sarah thy wife? And he said, Behold, in the tent.
18:10 And he said, I will certainly return unto thee according to the time of life; and, lo, Sarah thy wife shall have a son. And Sarah heard it in the tent door, which was behind him.

b. of which God [430 * ‘elohyim] [Strong: plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.
