And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.

1. “And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.”


a. And [Strong: 2532. kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]


b. [Strong: 3588. [ho] ὁ ho ho, including the feminine he hay, and the neuter to to in all their inflections; the definite article; the (sometimes to be supplied, at others omitted, in English idiom):--the, this, that, one, he, she, it, etc.] [Thayer: [ho] ὁ, ἡ, τό, originally τος, τῇ, τό (as is evident from the forms τοι, ται for οἱ, αἱ in Homer and the Ionic writings), corresponds to our definite article the (German der, die, das), which is properly a demonstrative pronoun, which we see in its full force in Homer, and of which we find certain indubitable traces also in all kinds of Greek prose, and hence also in the N. j. disciples [Strong: 3101. mathetes math-ay-tes' from 3129; a learner, i.e. pupil:--disciple.]

1). Is there a contradiction in the Gospels? Matthew’s account clearly says something different than Mark or Luke. Matthew’s account says she was dead while Mark  says she was “at the point of death”, and Luke says she was “dying”. That is a big difference. 


a). Mark 5:21-24 And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.

5::22 And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,

5:23 And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: I pray thee, come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.

5:24 And Jesus went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him.


b). Luke 8:41, 42 And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus' feet, and besought him that he would come into his house:

8:42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.


2). What must be understood is that these accounts are not in exact chronological order. Before a person dies they have to be dying. The first time Jairus approached Jesus, Jiarus’s daughter was still alive (Mark 5:21-24; Luke 8:41, 42). During the journey to Jairus’s house, they are intercepted by the woman with the issue of blood (Mark 5:24-34; Luke 8:43-48). The woman receives healing and Jesus comforts her and releases her in peace. While he is doing that, someone from Jairus’s house comes and tells him his daughter has died (Luke 8:49; Mark 5:35). It is at this point that Jairus comes again to Jesus and says, “My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.”
