Genesis 19:23

Genesis 19:23

The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

a. NLT: Lot reached the village just as the sun was rising over the horizon.

b. NIV: By the time Lot reached Zoar, the sun had risen over the land.

c. YLT: The sun hath gone out on the earth, and Lot hath entered into Zoar,

d. Amplified Bible: The sun had risen over the earth when Lot entered Zoar.

e. Septuagint: The sun was risen upon the earth, when Lot entered into Segor.

f. Stone Edition Chumash: The sun rose upon the earth and Lot arrived at Zoar.

1. The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar.

a. the sun [8121 * shemesh] [Strong: from an unused root meaning to be brilliant; the sun; by implication, the east; figuratively, a ray, i.e. (arch.) a notched battlement:--+ east side(-ward), sun ((rising)), + west(-ward), window.]

b. was risen [3318 * yatsa’] [Strong: a primitive root; to go (causatively, bring) out, in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively, direct and proxim.:--X after, appear, X assuredly, bear out, X begotten, break out, bring forth (out, up), carry out, come (abroad, out, thereat, without), + be condemned, depart(-ing, -ure), draw forth, in the end, escape, exact, fail, fall (out), fetch forth (out), get away (forth, hence, out), (able to, cause to, let) go abroad (forth, on, out), going out, grow, have forth (out), issue out, lay (lie) out, lead out, pluck out, proceed, pull out, put away, be risen, X scarce, send with commandment, shoot forth, spread, spring out, stand out, X still, X surely, take forth (out), at any time, X to (and fro), utter.]

c. upon the earth [776 * ‘erets] [Strong: from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):--X common, country, earth, field, ground, land, X natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

d. when Lot [3876 * Lowt] [Strong: the same as 3875; Lot, Abraham's nephew:--Lot.]

e. entered [935 * bow’] [Strong: a primitive root; to go or come (in a wide variety of applications):--abide, apply, attain, X be, befall, + besiege, bring (forth, in, into, to pass), call, carry, X certainly, (cause, let, thing for) to come (against, in, out, upon, to pass), depart, X doubtless again, + eat, + employ, (cause to) enter (in, into, -tering, -trance, -try), be fallen, fetch, + follow, get, give, go (down, in, to war), grant, + have, X indeed, (in-)vade, lead, lift (up), mention, pull in, put, resort, run (down), send, set, X (well) stricken (in age), X surely, take (in), way.]

f. Zoar [6820 * Tso’ar] [Strong: from 6819; little; Tsoar, a place East of the Jordan:--Zoar.]

1). Dake: “When Lot entered Zoar God destroyed the other cities of the plain. Zoar was spared in answer to Lot’s plea, and Abraham’s intercession…Zoar continued for many centuries, not because of prayer only, but no doubt, also because it was not as ripe for judgment as the other cities. After Zoar was spared, Lot became afraid to dwell there and went to the mountain and lived in a cave, Genesis 19:30.”

2). In this verse it clearly says Lot entered into Zoar. We would assume that his wife and daughters were with him, but as the verses ahead show his wife was not axactly with him. His daughters though were.
