Jeremiah 39:14

Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.

a. ASV: They sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home. So he dwelt among the people.

b. YLT: Yea, they send and take Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and give him unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam, son of Shaphan, to carry him home, and he dwelleth in the midst of the people.

c. Classic Amplified: Sent and took Jeremiah out of the court of the guard and entrusted him to Gedaliah [a prominent man whose father had once saved the prophet’s life] son of Ahikam, the son of Shaphan, that he should take him home [with him to Mizpah]. So Jeremiah was released and dwelt among the people.

d. Septuagint  [In the Septuagint there is no Jeremiah 39:4-13 Jeremiah 39:14-18 are found in Jeremiah 46:1-3 & 46:14-18]: And they sent, and took Jeremias out of the court of the prison, and gave him [in charge] to Godolias the son of Achicam, the son of Saphan: and they brought him out, and he sat in the midst of the people.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: They sent [for him]; but others had already taken jeremiah out of the Courtyard of Confinement. They gave him over to Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, to remove him to [Gedaliah’s] house, and he dwelt among the people.

1. “Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison…”

2. “...and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan…”

3.  “...that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.”

1). T appears that a whole party of officials from Nebuchadrezzar participated and freed Jeremiah from prison. It seems to me that there was going to be no mistake in this matter. God promised Jeremiah he would be protected from the enemy.

a). Jeremiah 39:11-14 Now Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave charge concerning Jeremiah to Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard, saying,

39:12 Take him, and look well to him, and do him no harm; but do unto him even as he shall say unto thee.

39:13 So Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard sent, and Nebushasban, Rabsaris, and Nergalsharezer, Rabmag, and all the king of Babylon's princes;

39:14 Even they sent, and took Jeremiah out of the court of the prison, and committed him unto Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, that he should carry him home: so he dwelt among the people.

b). Jeremiah 15:11 The Lord said, Verily it shall be well with thy remnant; verily I will cause the enemy to entreat thee well in the time of evil and in the time of affliction.
