1 Timothy 3:3

Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;

a. ASV: No brawler, no striker; but gentle, not contentious, no lover of money;
  
b. YLT: Not given to wine, not a striker, not given to filthy lucre, but gentle, not contentious, not a lover of money,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: Not given to wine, not combative but gentle and considerate, not quarrelsome but forbearing and peaceable, and not a lover of money [insatiable for wealth and ready to obtain it by questionable means].
1. “Not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre…”

a. 2.  “...but patient, not a brawler, not covetous;”

a. but [Strong: 235 allá, al-lah'; neuter plural of G243; properly, other things, i.e. (adverbially) contrariwise (in many relations):—and, but (even), howbeit, indeed, nay, nevertheless, no, notwithstanding, save, therefore, yea, yet.]
b. patient [Strong: 1933 epieikḗs, ep-ee-i-kace'; from G1909 and G1503; appropriate, i.e. (by implication) mild:—gentle, moderation, patient.]
c. not a brawler [Strong: 269 ámachos, am'-akh-os; from G1 (as a negative particle) and G3163; peaceable:—not a brawler.]
d. not covetous [Strong: 866 aphilárgyros, af-il-ar'-goo-ros; from G1 (as a negative particle) and G5366; unavaricious:—without covetousness, not greedy of filthy lucre.]
