He that findeth his life shall
lose it: and he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.
a. NLT: If you
cling to your life, you will lose it; but if you give up your life for me, you
will find it.
b. NIV: Whoever
finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will
find it.
c. YLT: 'He who
found his life shall lose it, and he who lost his life for my sake shall find
it.
d. Amplified Bible: Whoever
finds his [lower] life will lose it [the higher life], and whoever loses his
[lower] life on My account will find it [the higher life].

1. “He that findeth his life
shall lose it…”

[Strong: a prolonged form of a primary heuro hyoo'-ro, which
(together with another cognate form) heureo hyoo-reh'-o is used for it in all
the tenses except the present and imperfect to find (literally or
figuratively):--find, get, obtain, perceive, see.]

particle au (perhaps akin to the base of 109 through the idea of a baffling
wind) (backward); the reflexive pronoun self, used (alone or in the comparative
1438) of the third person , and (with the proper personal pronoun) of the other

((him-, my-, thy- )self, (your-)selves, she, that, their(-s), them(-selves),
