Hebrews 2:15

Hebrews 2:15

 And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

a. NLT: Only in this way could he set free all who have lived their lives as slaves to the fear of dying.

b. NIV: and free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death.

c. YLT: and might deliver those, whoever, with fear of death, throughout all their life, were subjects of bondage,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: And also that He might deliver and completely set free all those who through the [haunting] fear of death were held in bondage throughout the whole course of their lives.

e. Worrell Translation: and might release all those who, through fear of death, were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

1. “And deliver them who through fear of death…”

a. e. through [1223 * dia] [Strong: a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional):--after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) ... fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.]

f. fear [5401 * phobos] [Strong: from a primary phebomai (to be put in fear); alarm or fright:--be afraid, + exceedingly, fear, terror.]

g. of death [2288 * Thanatos] [Strong: from 2348; (properly, an adjective used as a noun) death (literally or figuratively):--X deadly, (be...) death.]

2. “…were all their lifetime subject to bondage.”

a. were [2258 * en] [Strong: imperfect of 1510; I (thou, etc.) was (wast or were):--+ agree, be, X have (+ charge of), hold, use, was(-t), were.]
