Romans 6:12

 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

a. NLT: Do not let sin control the way you live; do not give in to sinful desires.

b. NIV: Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.

c. YLT: Let not then the sin reign in your mortal body, to obey it in its desires;

d. Amplified Bible: Let not sin therefore rule as king in your mortal (short-lived, perishable) bodies, to make you yield to its cravings and be subject to its lusts and evil passions.

1. “Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body…”

a. Let…reign [936 * basileuo] [Strong: from 935; to rule (literally or figuratively):--king, reign.]

1). We are to bring our bodies into subjection to our spirit, not allow sin to bring our bodies into slavery.

a). 1 Corinthians 9:27 But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway.

2). As Romans 6:12 says we are not to allow sin to reign as king in our bodies, and because of the grace of salvation we have the ability to not allow it.

2. “…that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.”

1). Whomever we obey and yield our bodily members to is whom we are servants to, whether to sin or to God.
