Ezekiel 36:3

Ezekiel 36:3

Therefore prophesy and say, Thus saith the LORD God; Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people:

a. ASV: Therefore prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Because, even because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the nations, and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and the evil report of the people;

b. YLT: Therefore, prophesy, and thou hast said: Thus said the Lord Jehovah: Because, even because, of desolating, And of swallowing you up from round about, For your being a possession to the remnant of the nations, And ye are taken up on the tip of the tongue, And are an evil report of the people.

c. Classic Amplified: Therefore prophesy and say, Thus says the Lord God: Because, yes, because they made you a desolation, and they snapped after and crushed you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and you became the talk and evil gossip of the people,

d. Septuagint: Therefore prophesy, and say, Thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have been dishonoured, and hated by those round about you, that ye might be a possession to the remainder of the nations, and ye became a by-word, and a reproach to the nations:

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/ Writings: Therefore, prophesy and say, Thus said the Lord HASHEM/ELOHIM: Because, and again because, there was astonishment and craving for you from all around, for you to become a heritage for the rest of the nations, and you were taken up on [every] lip of each nations as the subject of the people’s discouragement.

g. God [Strong: 3069 Yᵉhôvih, yeh-ho-vee'; a variation of H3068 [used after H136, and pronounced by Jews as H430, in order to prevent the repetition of the same sound, since they elsewhere pronounce H3068 as H136]:—God.]

2. “...Because they have made you desolate, and swallowed you up on every side, that ye might be a possession unto the residue of the heathen…”

a. Because [Strong: 3282 ya`an yah'-an from an unused root meaning to pay attention; properly, heed; by implication, purpose (sake or account); used adverbially to indicate the reason or cause:--because (that), forasmuch (+ as), seeing then, + that, + wheras, + why.]

[they have made you] desolate [Strong: 8074 shâmêm, shaw-mame'; a primitive root; to stun (or intransitively, grow numb), i.e. devastate or (figuratively) stupefy (both usually in a passive sense):—make amazed, be astonied, (be an) astonish(-ment), (be, bring into, unto, lay, lie, make) desolate(-ion, places), be destitute, destroy (self), (lay, lie, make) waste, wonder.]

e. you [up] [Strong: 853 'eth ayth apparent contracted from 226 in the demonstrative sense of entity; properly, self (but generally used to point out more definitely the object of a verb or preposition, even or namely):--(as such unrepresented in English).]

f. [on] every side [Strong: 5439 çâbîyb, saw-beeb'; or (feminine) סְבִיבָה çᵉbîybâh; from H5437; (as noun) a circle, neighbour, or environs; but chiefly (as adverb, with or without preposition) around:—(place, round) about, circuit, compass, on every side.]

g. [that you might] be [Strong: 1961 hayah haw-yaw a primitive root (Compare 1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary):--beacon, X altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, + follow, happen, X have, last, pertain, quit (one-)self, require, X use.]

h. [a] possession [Strong: 4181 môwrâshâh, mo-raw-shaw'; feminine of H4180; a possession:—heritage, inheritance, possession.]

j. [of the] heathen gôwy, go'-ee; rarely (shortened) גֹּי gôy; apparently from the same root as H1465 (in the sense of massing); a foreign nation; hence, a Gentile; also (figuratively) a troop of animals, or a flight of locusts:—Gentile, heathen, nation, people.]

1). Israel has been terrorized ever since the day they became a nation in 1948, they have been numbed, and stunned to the point they are willing to give up their inheritance.

2. “…and ye are taken up in the lips of talkers, and are an infamy of the people:”

a. [and ye are] taken up [Strong: 5927 ʻâlâh, aw-law'; a primitive root; to ascend, intransitively (be high) or actively (mount); used in a great variety of senses, primary and secondary, literal and figurative:—arise (up), (cause to) ascend up, at once, break (the day) (up), bring (up), (cause to) burn, carry up, cast up, shew, climb (up), (cause to, make to) come (up), cut off, dawn, depart, exalt, excel, fall, fetch up, get up, (make to) go (away, up); grow (over) increase, lay, leap, levy, lift (self) up, light, (make) up, × mention, mount up, offer, make to pay, perfect, prefer, put (on), raise, recover, restore, (make to) rise (up), scale, set (up), shoot forth (up), (begin to) spring (up), stir up, take away (up), work.]

c. [the] lips [Strong: 8193 sâphâh, saw-faw'; or (in dual and plural) שֶׂפֶת sepheth; probably from H5595 or H8192 through the idea of termination (compare H5490); the lip (as a natural boundary); by implication, language; by analogy, a margin (of a vessel, water, cloth, etc.):—band, bank, binding, border, brim, brink, edge, language, lip, prating, (sea-)shore, side, speech, talk, (vain) words.]

d. [of] talkers [Strong: 3956 lâshôwn, law-shone'; or לָשֹׁן lâshôn; also (in plural) feminine לְשֹׁנָה lᵉshônâh; from H3960; the tongue (of man or animals), used literally (as the instrument of licking, eating, or speech), and figuratively (speech, an ingot, a fork of flame, a cove of water):— babbler, bay, evil speaker, language, talker, tongue, wedge.] [D.C. In this context “evil speaker”]

f. [of the] people [Strong: 5971 ʻam, am; from H6004; a people (as a congregated unit); specifically, a tribe (as those of Israel); hence (collectively) troops or attendants; figuratively, a flock:—folk, men, nation, people.]

1). Interestingly, this same Hebrew word is used in Numbers 13 when the spies came back from checking out the land and 10 of them brought an “evil report”.

a). Numbers 13:32  And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

2). Ezekiel 36:3 [NIV] Therefore prophesy and say, 'This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Because they ravaged and hounded you from every side so that you became the possession of the rest of the nations and the object of people's malicious talk and slander.

3). The following are a few of the examples of malicious talk and slander from the residue of the heathen. The U.N. and any nation siding with them that says the West Bank of the Jordan, the mountains of Israel are not the inheritance of Israel are slandering God.

a). The Palestinian National Charter, Article 15:  The liberation of Palestine, from an Arab viewpoint, is a national (qawmi) duty and it attempts to repel the Zionist and imperialist aggression against the Arab homeland, and aims at the elimination of Zionism in Palestine. Absolute responsibility for this falls upon the Arab nation - peoples and governments - with the Arab people of Palestine in the vanguard. Accordingly, the Arab nation must mobilize all its military, human, moral, and spiritual capabilities to participate actively with the Palestinian people in the liberation of Palestine. It must, particularly in the phase of the armed Palestinian revolution, offer and furnish the Palestinian people with all possible help, and material and human support, and make available to them the means and opportunities that will enable them to continue to carry out their leading role in the armed revolution, until they liberate their homeland. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/plocov.asp#art12

b). The Palestinian Charter, Article 22: “Zionism is a political movement organically associated with international imperialism and antagonistic to all action for liberation and to progressive movements in the world. It is racist and fanatic in its nature, aggressive, expansionist, and colonial in its aims, and fascist in its methods. Israel is the instrument of the Zionist movement, and geographical base for world imperialism placed strategically in the midst of the Arab homeland to combat the hopes of the Arab nation for liberation, unity, and progress. Israel is a constant source of threat vis-à-vis peace in the Middle East and the whole world. Since the liberation of Palestine will destroy the Zionist and imperialist presence and will contribute to the establishment of peace in the Middle East, the Palestinian people look for the support of all the progressive and peaceful forces and urge them all, irrespective of their affiliations and beliefs, to offer the Palestinian people all aid and support in their just struggle for the liberation of their homeland. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/20th_century/plocov.asp#art12

c). The Palestinian Charter, Article 23: “The demand of security and peace, as well as the demand of right and justice, require all states to consider Zionism an illegitimate movement, to outlaw its existence, and to ban its operations, in order that friendly relations among peoples may be preserved, and the loyalty of citizens to their respective homelands safeguarded.”

d). The Hamas Covenant, Introduction:    "Israel will rise and will remain erect until Islam eliminates it as it had eliminated its predecessors."  The Imam and Martyr Hassan al-Banna May Allah Pity his Soul. http://fas.org/irp/world/para/docs/880818.htm

e). The Hamas Covenant, Article 6: The Islamic Resistance Movement is a distinct Palestinian Movement which owes its loyalty to Allah, derives from Islam its way of life and strives to raise the banner of Allah over every inch of
Palestine. Only under the shadow of Islam could the members of all regions
coexist in safety and security for their lives, properties and rights(11).
In the absence of Islam, conflict arises, oppression reigns, corruption is
rampant and struggles and wars prevail. Allah had inspired the Muslim
poet, Muhammed Iqbal(12), when he said: When the Faith wanes, there is no security. There is no this-worldliness for those who have no faith. Those who wish to live their life without religion. Have made annihilation the equivalent of life.

f). Even our own State Department of the United States under the Administrations of Clinton, Bush and Obama joined in spewing forth malicious talk and slander by declaring the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights as occupied territory. God’s word declares all three of those areas part of Israel. Under the Trump Administration our government acknowledges that the Golan Heights are Israeli territory.
