Psalm
102:26
a. I believe the
most powerful aspect of these verses, Psalm 102:25-27, continuing with this
verse, Psalm 102:26, is the fact it is a dialogue between two persons of the
Godhead. For a thousand years Jewish leaders did not know this, but thanks to
the Holy Ghost who inspired the writer of the book of Hebrews (presumably
Paul), we have insight directed by God Himself into this passage. The whole
passage we will compare with is Hebrews 1:10-12. The passage in Hebrews 1:10-12
focuses on Psalms 102:25-27 and according to the Hebrews passage is a
continuation of what God the Father said to his Son, who also is God. The whole
passage Psalm 102:25-27 is quoted almost word for word in Hebrews.
They shall perish, but thou shalt
endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou
change them, and they shall be changed:
a. NLT: They will
perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them.
b. NIV: They will
perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing
you will change them and they will be discarded.
c. Young’s Literal
Translation: They -- They perish, and Thou remainest, And all of them as a
garment become old, As clothing Thou changest them, And they are changed.
d. Amplified Bible:
They shall perish, but You shall remain and endure; yes, all
of them shall wear out and become old like a garment. Like
clothing You shall change them, and they shall be changed and pass
away.
e. Septuagint: They
shall perish, but thou remainest: and they all shall wax old
as a garment; and as a vesture shalt thou fold them, and they shall be changed.

Torah/Writings/Prophets [Psalm 102:27]: They will perish, but You will endure;

1. “They shall perish…”
a. perish [6 * ‘abad][Strong:

b. The “they” he is
referring to are the earth and the heavens. The two words, “They shall” were
added by the translators because the context demanded it.
c. It has been said
that the Old Testament is the New Testament concealed and the New Testament is
the Old Testament revealed. That particular phrase has been proven true many
times over. Looking at Psalm 102:25-27 in light of Hebrews 1:8-12 demonstrates
it perfectly.
1). Hebrews 1:8-12 Hebrews
1:8-12 But unto the Son he saith, Thy
throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre
of thy kingdom.
1:9 Thou hast loved
righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed
thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.
1:10 And, Thou,
Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens
are the works of thine hands:
1:11 They shall
perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;
1:12 And as a
vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the
same, and thy years shall not fail.
d. Two very
remarkable verses that add further light to the New Testament is the Old Testament
revealed are:
1). 2 Peter 3:10-14
But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the
heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with
fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.
Seeing then that all
these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all
holy conversation and godliness,
Looking for and
hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire
shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?
Nevertheless we,
according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein
dwelleth righteousness.
Wherefore, beloved,
seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in
peace, without spot, and blameless.
a). Here Peter exhorts
us that we should order our behavior right in the knowledge of the fact the
heavens and the earth will be burned up.
2). Revelation
20:11 And I saw a great white throne,
and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and
there was found no place for them.
a). During the Great
White Throne Judgment the earth and the heavens will flee away. This event,
according to the words of Jesus, fulfills everything in the Law.
b). Matthew 5:18 For
verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall
in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
2. “…but thou shalt endure…”

3. “…yea, all of them shall wax old
like a garment…”

1). Three examples.
a). Isaiah 34:4 And
all the host of heaven shall be dissolved, and the heavens shall be rolled
together as a scroll: and all their host shall fall down, as the leaf falleth
off from the vine, and as a falling fig from the fig tree.
b). Isaiah 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the
heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a
garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation
shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
c). Matthew 24:35
Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.
4. “…as a vesture shalt thou change
them, and they shall be changed.”

through), renew, sprout, strike through.]
1). The definition “to
hasten away” given in Strong’s, matches the New Testament’s account of what
will happen to the heavens and the earth.
