1). This encounter with a blind man has caused some to mistakenly declare a contradiction in the Scripture. The reason being the obvious differences in the other texts telling of the same event. Here in Mark it says that Jesus had come to Jericho and was leaving Jericho when the encounter with the blind man occurred. Matthew gives the same location for the encounter as being while they were leaving Jericho.

a). Matthew 20:29 And as they departed from Jericho, a great multitude followed him.

2). Luke though gives a different location for the encounter as being before he entered Jericho.

a). Luke 18:35 And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the wayside begging.

3). What skeptics do not realize is there were two Jericho’s. One Jericho of course was the one destroyed by Joshua and Israel in Joshua 6. After its destruction, Joshua uttered a curse on the person who would attempt to rebuild the city.

a). Joshua 6:26  And Joshua adjured them at that time, saying, Cursed be the man before the LORD, that riseth up and buildeth this city Jericho: he shall lay the foundation thereof in his firstborn, and in his youngest son shall he set up the gates of it.

4). This prophetic curse came to pass centuries later during the time of Ahab king of Israel.

a). 1 Kings 16:26  In his days did Hiel the Bethelite build Jericho: he laid the foundation thereof in Abiram his firstborn, and set up the gates thereof in his youngest son Segub, according to the word of the LORD, which he spake by Joshua the son of Nun.

5). After the destruction of the fortified city of Jericho the people returned to the area to build another city about two miles east of the one that was destroyed.  Jericho later fell to the Babylonians, but was rebuilt when the Jews were allowed to return from their exile. The city continued to be a resort during the rule of the succeeding empires.  King Herod built his winter palace in Jericho and constructed an enormous aqueduct which carried water from Ein Kelt.  http://www.arkpw.net/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=194:jericho

6). So there is no contradiction. The Bible was written in a way to bless its friends and fool its enemies.
