Galatians 1:21

Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Celicia.

a. NLT: After that visit I went north into the provinces of Syria and Cilicia.

b. NIV: Then I went to Syria and Cilicia.

1. “Afterwards…”

a. Afterwards [Strong: 1899 epeita ep'-i-tah from 1909 and 1534; thereafter:--after that(-ward), then.]

1). At this time Saul/Paul was into his fourth year of Christianity. He had met Christ on the road to Damascus. He spent a small amount of time in Damascus regaining strength from his three day fast and then went to Arabia. He probably went to Mt. Sinai. See notes Galatians 1:17. After he left Jerusalem Paul went into the regions of Syria and Celicia.

2. “…I came into the regions of Syria and Celicia.”

a. I came [Strong: 2064 erchomai er'-khom-ahee middle voice of a primary verb (used only in the present and imperfect tenses, the others being supplied by a kindred (middle voice) eleuthomai el-yoo'-thom-ahee, or (active) eltho el'-tho, which do not otherwise occur) to come or go (in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively):--accompany, appear, bring, come, enter, fall out, go, grow, X light, X next, pass, resort, be set.]

b. into [Strong: 1519 eis ice a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), ...ward, (where-)fore, with. c. the regions [Strong: 2824 klima klee'-mah from 2827; a slope, i.e. (specially) a "clime" or tract of country:--part, region.]

d. [of] Syria [Strong: 4947 Suria soo-ree'-ah probably of Hebrew origin (6865); Syria (i.e. Tsyria or Tyre), a region of Asia:--Syria.]

e. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

f. Celicia [Strong: 2791 Kilikia kil-ik-ee'-ah probably of foreign origin; Cilicia, a region of Asia Minor:--Cilicia.]

1). The reason Paul came into this region was because he was sent there by church of Jerusalem because Paul had so many death threats on him. Paul was just as bold for Christ after he got saved as he was a persecutor of the church before he got saved. The reason he left Damascus is because there were death threats on him there.

a). Acts 9:26-30 And when Saul was come to Jerusalem, he assayed to join himself to the disciples: but they were all afraid of him, and believed not that he was a disciple.

9:27 But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles, and declared unto them how he had seen the Lord in the way, and that he had spoken to him, and how he had preached boldly at Damascus in the name of Jesus.

9:28 And he was with them coming in and going out at Jerusalem.

9:29 And he spake boldly in the name of the Lord Jesus, and disputed against the Grecians: but they went about to slay him.

9:30 Which when the brethren knew, they brought him down to Caesarea, and sent him forth to Tarsus.
