Mercy unto you, and peace, and love, be multiplied.

1. “Mercy unto you,…”

a. Mercy [Strong: 1656 eleos el'-eh-os of uncertain affinity; compassion (human or divine, especially active):--(+ tender) mercy.]

b. unto you [Strong: 5213 humin hoo-min' irregular dative case of 5210; to (with or by) you:--ye, you, your(-selves).]

1). God is rich in mercy.

a). Ephesians 2:4 But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us,

2). We are saved by his mercy.

a). Titus 3:5, 6 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

3:6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

3). It is God’s will that every person partakes of his mercy.

a). NASB 1 Timothy 2:4 “Who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”

b). 2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

2. “…and peace,…”

a. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. peace [Strong: 1515 eirene i-ray'-nay probably from a primary verb eiro (to join); peace (literally or figuratively); by implication, prosperity:--one, peace, quietness, rest, + set at one again.] [Thayer: a state of national tranquility, exemption from the rage and havoc of war; peace between individuals, harmony, concord; security, safety, prosperity, felicity; the Messiah’s peace; the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot, of whatever sort that is.]

1). Thirteen Pauline epistles start out with God’s desire for us to have peace: Romans 1:7; 1 Corinthians 1:3; 2 Corinthians 1:2; Galatians 1:3; Ephesians 1:2; Philippians 1:2; Colossians 1:2; 1 Thessalonians 1:1; 2 Thessalonians 1:2; 1 Timothy 1:2; 2 Timothy 1:2; Titus 1:4; Philemon 3.

c. God wants us to have peace, but that peace comes out of a close relationship with Jesus.

1). Philippians 4:6, 7 Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.

4:7 And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

3. “…and love, be multiplied.”

a. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. love [Strong: 26 agape ag-ah'-pay from 25; love, i.e. affection or benevolence; specially (plural) a love-feast:--(feast of) charity(-ably), dear, love.]

c. [be] multiplied [Strong: 4129 plethuno play-thoo'-no from another form of 4128; to increase (transitively or intransitively):--abound, multiply.]

1). God demonstrated to all how much he loved the world by sending Jesus to die for our sins.

a). John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
