1). Louis Goldberg, Deuteronomy: The introduction to Moses' song is in prose form (Deuteronomy 31:30), while the song itself is in poetic form (Deuteronomy 32). Verse 30 tells us that Moses recited the words of the song to the whole assembly (the music to the song was introduced at a later date. One can imagine the strong impact the words (and music) could have had on the listeners. The setting was designed to remind the people of their covenant relationship with their God and to encourage them to be faithful to His commandments and statutes. Another interesting feature of this song is its literary form, which follows the pattern of the Middle Eastern treaties between suzerain leaders and their subject-vassals. The pattern followed in these treaties is known as the riv or legal suit pattern. The subdivisions of the song reflect the different parts of the treaty. The song, therefore is a lawsuit itself, reflecting the covenant relationship as a very important witness between God and His people. The treaty form is not followed exactly, but Moses adapted it for his own purposes, as we shall note.

1). Institute of Creation Research, Days of Praise 9/2/11 This is a key part of the "song of Moses" commanded and given him by God (note Deuteronomy 31:19) as the children of Israel were about to enter the Promised Land. It is also a key verse in the whole divine plan of God.  It was written about 3,500 years ago, yet even then Moses could speak of the "days of old" and many generations before his time (at least 2,500 years). He also knew about Adam, and that all the people of all those generations had been "sons of Adam." As far as Moses knew by divine revelation, there had been no humans before Adam. He also mentioned the division of the nations (Genesis 10) that occurred before Israel even existed. Yet somehow these nations were 70 in number, the same as "the number of the children of Israel" when they migrated into Egypt (Genesis 46:27). Israel's "Promised Land" was pre-ordained to be approximately in the hub of all the nations of the whole world that would later come from them.  The apostle Paul also referred to these promised "bounds of the people" when he preached to the intellectuals at the cultural center of the world at Athens in his day, stating that God "hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation" (Acts 17:26-27). God does have a purpose for every nation and He "preached before the gospel unto Abraham, saying, In thee shall all nations be blessed" (Galatians 3:8). HMM

1). Institute of Creation Research, Days of Praise 8/1/15 This rebuke was by Moses, as he warned the people of God just before their entrance into the Promised Land. It contains the first use of the Hebrew nabal (translated “fool” or “foolish”) in the Bible. Here it is applied to God’s chosen people after they had been redeemed out of Egyptian slavery by God. This implies that the most foolish of all people are those who have known about God and His great salvation and yet have turned away from His Word. Paul writes in similar scathing terms of those who had known of God’s great deliverance of their fathers from the evil world before the Flood, and yet then abandoned Him for idolatry. “When they knew God, . . . their foolish heart was darkened. Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:21-22). David used the same word about those who decide they can explain things without God, just as do so many intellectuals in modern America. “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. . . . Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread: they have not called upon God” (Psalm 53:1, 4). Even prophets and preachers can become fools if they follow their own wisdom instead of God’s Word. “Thus saith the Lord GOD; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!” (Ezekiel 13:3). Jesus similarly rebuked even those He dearly loved, because they were surprised and discouraged when He was crucified. “O fools,” He said, because they had been “slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken” (Luke 24:25). 1). The first promise in Scripture promising longer life was concerning honoring our parents.

2). There are more than a few passages in the Scripture that promises longer life if we will walk in the fear of the LORD. Let me say that it is possible that we have a set number of days on this earth in conjunction with the plan that God has for our life, and when that plan is fulfilled we go on to be with the Lord.  It is also clear from Scripture that we can lengthen or shorten our days on this earth by our obedience or disobedience to the word of God, and I believe that most of us probably shorten our lives.  Here are a few examples of how we can lengthen or conversely shorten our lives by obedience or disobedience.

 

a). Proverbs 9:10, 11 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

9:11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

 

b). Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.


c). Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the LORD prolongs life, but the years of the wicked will be short


d). 1 Corinthians 11:29-32 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body.

11:30 For this cause many are weak and sickly among you, and many sleep.

11:31 For if we would judge ourselves, we should not be judged.

11:32 But when we are judged, we are chastened of the Lord, that we should not be condemned with the world.


e). Act 5:1-10 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession,

5:2 And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

3). World Outreach Church Daily Devotional 11/6/11: Someone might say, “What is our full length of time on this earth?” Perhaps it’s one age for one person and another age for another person. If God were making the appointment, we’d know that from the Bible. But look at what Ephesians 6:1-3 says: Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;) that it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. In other words, the Bible tells children, “There’s something you can do that will cause you to have a long life.” The book of Proverbs also talks about increasing the length of our lives: The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. Proverbs 9:10,11 The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened. Proverbs 10:27 There are many other Scriptures that say, “If you do this, you’ll live long on the earth,” or “If you do that, you’ll cut your life short on this earth.” But the Bible doesn’t say, “There’s an appointed time, and when your time comes, you’re going.” No, God tells us how to prolong our lives.
