Genesis 35:5

 Genesis 35:5  

And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

1. “And they journeyed: and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them…”

b. [and the] terror [Strong: 2847 chittah khit-taw' from 2865; fear:--terror.]


c. [of] God [Strong: 430 'elohiym el-o-heem' plural of 433; gods in the ordinary sense; but specifically used (in the plural thus, especially with the article) of the supreme God; occasionally applied by way of deference to magistrates; and sometimes as a superlative:--angels, X exceeding, God (gods)(-dess, -ly), X (very) great, judges, X mighty.]

2. “...and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.”


a. 1). The fear of God in Jacob, that inspired commanding his family to rid themselves of the idolatry and sanctifying themselves resulted in the fear of God preventing the people in the surrounding cities to not pursue. Just my thoughts.
