Psalm 19:5

Psalm 19:5

Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strongman to run a race.

a. ASV: Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, And rejoiceth as a strong man to run his course.

b. YLT: And he, as a bridegroom, goeth out from his covering, He rejoiceth as a mighty one To run the path.

c. Amplified Bible Classic: Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; and it rejoices as a strong man to run his course.

d. Septuagint [Psalm 19:5 in our Bible is Psalm 18:6 in the Septuagint]: In the sun he has set his tabernacle; and he come forth as a bridegroom out of his chamber: he will exult as a giant to run his course.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings [Psalm 19:5 in our Bible is Psalm 19:6 in Jewish Bibles]: Which is like a groom emerging from his bridal chamber, it rejoices like a powerful warrior to run the course.

1. “Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber…”

a. Which [is] [Strong: 1931 Of which the feminine (beyond the Pentateuch) is hiyw {he}; a primitive word, the third person pronoun singular, he (she or it); only expressed when emphatic or without a verb; also (intensively) self, or (especially with the article) the same; sometimes (as demonstrative) this or that; occasionally (instead of copula) as or are -- he, as for her, him(-self), it, the same, she (herself), such, that (...it), these, they, this, those, which (is), who.]

b. [as a] bridegroom [Strong: 2860 châthân, khaw-thawn'; from H2859; a relative by marriage (especially through the bride); figuratively, a circumcised child (as a species of religious espousal):—bridegroom, husband, son in law.]

c. coming out [Strong: 3318 yâtsâʼ, yaw-tsaw'; a primitive root; to go (causatively, bring) out, in a great variety of applications, literally and figuratively, direct and proxim.:—× after, appear, × assuredly, bear out, × begotten, break out, bring forth (out, up), carry out, come (abroad, out, thereat, without), be condemned, depart(-ing, -ure), draw forth, in the end, escape, exact, fail, fall (out), fetch forth (out), get away (forth, hence, out), (able to, cause to, let) go abroad (forth, on, out), going out, grow, have forth (out), issue out, lay (lie) out, lead out, pluck out, proceed, pull out, put away, be risen, × scarce, send with commandment, shoot forth, spread, spring out, stand out, × still, × surely, take forth (out), at any time, × to (and fro), utter.]

d. [of his] chamber [Strong: 2646 chuppâh, khoop-paw'; from H2645; a canopy:—chamber, closet, defence.]

1). In the previous verse it has been shown how the Messiah is likened unto the sun. He is also likened to a bridegroom.

a). John 3:29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegrooms voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.

2). Jesus referred to himself as the bridegroom in Matthew.

a). Matthew 9:15 And Jesus said unto them, Can the children of the bridechamber mourn, as long as the bridegroom is with them? but the days will come, when the bridegroom shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

2. “…and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race.”

a. [and] rejoiceth [Strong: 7797 sûws, soos; or שִׂישׂ sîys; a primitive root; to be bright, i.e. cheerful:—be glad, × greatly, joy, make mirth, rejoice.]

b. [as a] strong man [Strong: 1368 gibbôwr, ghib-bore'; or גִּבֹּר gibbôr; (shortened) intensive from the same as H1397; powerful; by implication, warrior, tyrant:—champion, chief, × excel, giant, man, mighty (man, one), strong (man), valiant man.]

c. [to] run [Strong: 7323 rûwts, roots; a primitive root; to run (for whatever reason, especially to rush):—break down, divide speedily, footman, guard, bring hastily, (make) run (away, through), post.]

d. [a] race [Strong: 734 ʼôrach, o'-rakh; from H732; a well-trodden road (literally or figuratively); also a caravan:—manner, path, race, rank, traveller, troop, (by-, high-) way.]

1). As the sun progresses through the signs of the Zodiac year after year it depicts the step by step process of God purchasing our eternal redemption through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

1). Institute Of Creation Research Daily Devotional 9/14/14 This well-loved Psalm provides us a glimpse of God’s creative majesty: “The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge” (vv. 1-2). Modern science has shown that the universe in which we live is really a tri-universe—a continuum of space/time/energy (or information). Thus, the first two verses of this psalm, by focusing our attention on “the heavens . . . the firmament” (space), “day . . . night” (time), and “speech . . . knowledge” (information/energy), reveal a scientific truth long before its “scientific” discovery. There is, of course, one created source of energy which typifies this energy. Speaking of space and time, the psalmist claims, “In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun” (v. 4), which is further described in our text verses. The sun is like a bridegroom, fully dressed in wedding garb, radiating joy as he comes forth. It is also like a champion runner, fully able to run the race and gain the victory. The sun’s energy, radiating out in all directions, not only energizes the earth but the entire solar system as well. Furthermore, it is now known that the sun traverses the galaxy in a gigantic orbit with its energy bathing each part. Truly, “there is nothing hid from the heat thereof” (text verse). Only the Creator of space, time, and energy—the Creator of the sun, the solar system, the Milky Way galaxy, and the universe—could have known these things. That Creator, through the empowering ministry of the Holy Spirit, is the author of this psalm. JDM

b. YLT: Into all the earth hath their line gone forth, And to the end of the world their sayings, For the sun He placed a tent in them,

c. Amplified Bible Classic: Yet their voice [in evidence] goes out through all the earth, their sayings to the end of the world. Of the heavens has God made a tent for the sun,

d. Septuagint [Psalm 19:4 in our Bible is Psalm 18:5 in the Septuagint]: Their voice is gone out into all the earth, and their words to the ends of the world.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings [Psalm 19:4 in our Bible is Psalm 19:5 in Jewish Bibles]: [But] their precision goes forth throughout the earth, and their words reach the end of the inhabited world. In their midst He has set up a tent for the sun.

1. “Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world.”

a. [Their] line [Strong: 6957 qav, kav; or קָו qâv; from H6960 (compare H6961); a cord (as connecting), especially for measuring; figuratively, a rule; also a rim, a musical string or accord:—line.]

d. [the] earth [776 ʼerets, eh'-rets; from an unused root probably meaning to be firm; the earth (at large, or partitively a land):—× common, country, earth, field, ground, land, × natins, way, + wilderness, world.]

e. [and their] words [Strong: 4405 millâh, mil-law'; from H4448 (plural masculine as if from מִלֶּה milleh; a word; collectively, a discourse; figuratively, a topic:— answer, by-word, matter, any thing (what) to say, to speak(-ing), speak, talking, word.]

f. [to the] end [Strong: 7097 qâtseh, kaw-tseh'; or (negative only) קֵצֶה qêtseh; from H7096; (used in a great variety of applications and idioms; compare H7093) an extremity:—× after, border, brim, brink, edge, end, (in-) finite, frontier, outmost coast, quarter, shore, (out-) side, × some, ut(-ter-) most (part).]

g. [of the] world [Strong: 8398 têbêl, tay-bale'; from H2986; the earth (as moist and therefore inhabited); by extension, the globe; by implication, its inhabitants; specifically, a particular land, as Babylonia, Palestine:—habitable part, world.]

h. [in them he hath] set [Strong: 7760  sûwm, soom; or שִׂים sîym; a primitive root; to put (used in a great variety of applications, literal, figurative, inferentially, and elliptically):—× any wise, appoint, bring, call (a name), care, cast in, change, charge, commit, consider, convey, determine, disguise, dispose, do, get, give, heap up, hold, impute, lay (down, up), leave, look, make (out), mark, name, × on, ordain, order, paint, place, preserve, purpose, put (on), regard, rehearse, reward, (cause to) set (on, up), shew, stedfastly, take, × tell, tread down, (over-)turn, × wholly, work.]

j. [for the] sun [Strong: 8121 shemesh, sheh'-mesh; from an unused root meaning to be brilliant; the sun; by implication, the east; figuratively, a ray, i.e. (architectural) a notched battlement:— east side(-ward), sun (rising), west(-ward), window.]

1). It is very significant that this verse is quoted by the Apostle Paul in Romans 10:18.

a). Romans 10:17, 18 “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
10:18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes, verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.”

2). It is also significant that the Greek word for “word” used in Romans 10:17 and in Romans 10:18 is “rhema .

a). W. E. Vine, Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words: “The significance of rhema (as distinct from logos) is exemplified in the injunction to take “the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God” Ephesians 6:17; here the reference is not to the whole Bible as such, but to the individual Scripture which the Spirit brings to our remembrance for use in time of need, a prerequisite being the regular storing of the mind with Scripture.”

b). This is a personal “word” brought to us by the Spirit of God.

3). This matches perfectly the Scriptures in Romans 1:20, 21 in speaking of the amount of revelation or light the people had of the things of God.

a). Romans 1:20, 21 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
1:21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.

(1) knew [1097 * ginosko ] [W. E. Vine: “In the N.T. ginosko frequently indicates a relation between the person knowing and the object known; in this respect, what is known is of volue or importance to the one who knows, and hence the establishment of the relationship especially of God’s knowledge.”

(2) The revelation they received was a “rhema” or personal word from God. They “knew” God. One of the ways they received that knowledge was through his creation, which included the revelation of the stars.

2. “In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun”

a. [in them he hath] set [Strong: 7760  sûwm, soom; or שִׂים sîym; a primitive root; to put (used in a great variety of applications, literal, figurative, inferentially, and elliptically):—× any wise, appoint, bring, call (a name), care, cast in, change, charge, commit, consider, convey, determine, disguise, dispose, do, get, give, heap up, hold, impute, lay (down, up), leave, look, make (out), mark, name, × on, ordain, order, paint, place, preserve, purpose, put (on), regard, rehearse, reward, (cause to) set (on, up), shew, stedfastly, take, × tell, tread down, (over-)turn, × wholly, work.]

b. [a] tabernacle [Strong: 168 ʼôhel, o'-hel; from H166; a tent (as clearly conspicuous from a distance):—covering, (dwelling) (place), home, tabernacle, tent.]

1). In the book of Malichi the “sun” is identified as the Messiah.

a). Malachi 4:2 “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in his wings…”

Psalm 19:3

Psalm 19:3

There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard.

a. ASV: There is no speech nor language; Their voice is not heard.

b. YLT: There is no speech, and there are no words. Their voice hath not been heard.

c. Amplified Bible Classic: There is no speech nor spoken word [from the stars]; their voice is not heard.

d. Septuagint [Psalm 19:3 in our Bible is Psalm 18:4 in the Septuagint]: There are no speeches or words, in which their voices are not heard.

e. [where their] voice [Strong: 6963 qôwl, kole; or קֹל qôl; from an unused root meaning to call aloud; a voice or sound:—+ aloud, bleating, crackling, cry (+ out), fame, lightness, lowing, noise, +hold peace, (pro-) claim, proclamation, + sing, sound, + spark, thunder(-ing), voice, + yell.]

g. heard [Strong: 8085 shâmaʻ, shaw-mah'; a primitive root; to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention, obedience, etc.; causatively, to tell, etc.):—× attentively, call (gather) together, × carefully, × certainly, consent, consider, be content, declare, × diligently, discern, give ear, (cause to, let, make to) hear(-ken, tell), × indeed, listen, make (a) noise, (be) obedient, obey, perceive, (make a) proclaim(-ation), publish, regard, report, shew (forth), (make a) sound, × surely, tell, understand, whosoever (heareth), witness.]

1). What verses 2 & 3 are saying is that although there is speech uttered, there are no voices or language, no audible words, yet the words are spread out all over the earth.

Psalm 19:2

Psalm 19:2

Day unto day uttereth speech, night unto night sheweth knowledge.

a. ASV: Day unto day uttereth speech, And night unto night showeth knowledge.

b. YLT: Day to day uttereth speech, And night to night sheweth knowledge.

c. Amplified Bible Classic: Day after day pours forth speech, and night after night shows forth knowledge.

d. Septuagint [Psalm 19:2 in our Bible is Psalm 18:3 in the Septuagint] : Day to day utters speech, and night to night proclaims knowledge.

e. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings [Psalm 19:2 in our Bible is Psalm 19:3]: Day following day utters speech, and night following night declares knowledge.

1. Day unto day uttereth speech, night unto night sheweth knowledge.

a. Day [Strong: 3117 yôwm, yome; from an unused root meaning to be hot; a day (as the warm hours), whether literal (from sunrise to sunset, or from one sunset to the next), or figurative (a space of time defined by an associated term), (often used adverb):—age, always, chronicals, continually(-ance), daily, ((birth-), each, to) day, (now a, two) days (agone), elder, × end, evening, (for) ever(-lasting, -more), × full, life, as (so) long as (... live), (even) now, old, outlived, perpetually, presently, remaineth, ×required, season, × since, space, then, (process of) time, as at other times, in trouble, weather, (as) when, (a, the, within a) while (that), × whole ( age), (full) year(-ly), younger.]

b. g. showeth [Strong: 2331 châvâh, khaw-vah'; a primitive root; (compare H2324, H2421); properly, to live; by implication (intensively) to declare or show:—show.]

h. knowledge [Strong: 1847 daʻath, dah'-ath; from H3045; knowledge:—cunning, (ig-) norantly, know(-ledge), (un-) awares (wittingly).]
1). When I first began to meditate on these Scriptures I was perplexed, because my reasoning was if the passage of Psalm 19:1-6 was about the revelation of the stars, why did it say, “Day unto day” when the stars only come out at night? I then realized that one of the fundamental aspects of the original revelation in the heavens was the path of the sun during the day in relation to the night sky.

Psalm 19:1

Psalm 19:1

The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.

a. ASV: The heavens declare the glory of God; And the firmament showeth his handiwork.

a). 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

3). E. W. Bullinger, The Witness Of The Stars: “Surely there is something more referred to here than a mere wonder excited by the works of the Creator! When we read the whole passage and mark its structure, and note the words employed, we are emphatically told that the heavens contain a revelation from God; they prophesy, they show knowledge, they tell of God’s glory, and set forth His purposes and counsels.”

4). This is the glory of God that the ancients changed into an image.

a). Romans 1:23 “And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and to fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.

(1) Corruptible man: Bootes, Ophiuchus, Perseus, Virgo, Coma, Cepheus.

1). The handy work involves not only the orbits of the planets and stars, but also the vast expanse of the universe.

a). Jeremiah 31:35 Thus saith the LORD, which giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, which divideth the sea when the waves thereof roar; The LORD of hosts is his name:

b). Stars, Planets, and Galaxies: [Clusters of Galaxies] “At a distance of several diameters of the Local Group there are other clusters of galaxies. North of Spica in Virgo, there is a region called the Realm of the Galaxies. Here, vast assemblages are found containing thousands of galaxies in one of the largest clusters known. Its distance is about 40 million light years. The number of galaxies contained may be numbered in the tens of thousands, with the greatest concentration toward the constellation Virgo; the number of galaxies tapers off as the Local Group is reached. From all appearances, this is the local super galaxy, a galaxy of galaxies, instead of stars. Our Galaxy, the Milky Way, is one in tens of thousands far out on the rim of a gigantic wheel of galaxies whose flat distribution indicates a rotation about the center. The local super galaxy is only one of many, for investigations  show others in the direction of Hydra and Pavo. Clusters of galaxies extend into space in all directions many of billions of light years. Thus, we can see that the universe is composed of hierarchies of increasing magnitude, in constant motion, in an unimaginably vast sea of space.”

Luke 21:24

Luke 21:24

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive unto all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

a. ASV: And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led captive into all the nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

b. YLT: and they shall fall by the mouth of the sword, and shall be led captive to all the nations, and Jerusalem shall be trodden down by nations, till the times of nations be fulfilled.

1).  In 70A.D. Jerusalem was destroyed along with the Temple by the Romans and Jews were scattered all over the world.

2. “…and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the the Gentiles…”

a. and [Strong: 2532 kaí, kahee; apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:—and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

f. [the] Gentiles [Strong: 1484 éthnos, eth'-nos; probably from G1486; a race (as of the same habit), i.e. a tribe; specially, a foreign (non-Jewish) one (usually, by implication, pagan):—Gentile, heathen, nation, people.]

1). Gentile nations have been in control of Israel and Jerusalem for all that time. During the times of the Gentiles, Jerusalem will be trodden down of the Gentiles. As the Greek definition declares, the Gentiles will have Jerusalem under subjection. They will not be aware or understand the spiritual significance of that city. Jerusalem is the city of the great King.

a). Psalm 48:1, 2 Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.
48:2 Beautiful for situation, the joy of the whole earth, is mount Zion on the sides of the north, the city of the great King.

2). It is the city that God has chosen for Himself.

a). 2 Chronicles 6:6 But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

3). The fact that Israel is now a nation and has national sovereignty is a strong indicator that the times of the Gentiles are about over. During the times of the Gentiles, the individual Gentile nations have national sovereignty, they have supreme independent authority to govern themselves. In the United States, no other nation dictates to us what we can or cannot do within our borders. Our laws come forth from at least four spheres of jurisdiction. On the Federal level Washington D. C. On the state level our laws come forth from the individual state capitals. There are also County ordinances and City ordinances. Likewise in other nations, depending on what form of government they have, they govern themselves. The laws governing France come from the governing body in Paris. The laws governing England, come from the governing body in London.

3. “...until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.”

a. until [Strong: 891 áchri, akh'-ree; akin to G206 (through the idea of a terminus); (of time) until or (of place) up to:—as far as, for, in(-to), till, (even, un-)to, until, while.]

b. [the] times [Strong: 2540 kairós, kahee-ros'; of uncertain affinity; an occasion, i.e. set or proper time:—X always, opportunity, (convenient, due) season, (due, short, while) time, a while.]

c. [of the] Gentiles [Strong: 1484 éthnos, eth'-nos; probably from G1486; a race (as of the same habit), i.e. a tribe; specially, a foreign (non-Jewish) one (usually, by implication, pagan):—Gentile, heathen, nation, people.]

d. [be] fulfilled [Strong: 4137 plēróō, play-ro'-o; from G4134; to make replete, i.e. (literally) to cram (a net), level up (a hollow), or (figuratively) to furnish (or imbue, diffuse, influence), satisfy, execute (an office), finish (a period or task), verify (or coincide with a prediction), etc.:—accomplish, × after, (be) complete, end, expire, fill (up), fulfil, (be, make) full (come), fully preach, perfect, supply.]

1). In 1948 Israel became a nation again by decree of the United Nations (But fulfilling the word of God). They once again began to control some of the land God had given them. In 1967 they regained control of all of Jerusalem in the Six Day War. This is an indication that the Time of the Gentiles are drawing to a close.

2). In Luke 21:24 Jesus is contrasting the “times of the Gentiles” with something else. The Bible speaks about different times or seasons when things that God has ordained happen according to His calendar. A good example is in the Book of Acts when Jesus spoke of the restoration of the kingdom to Israel.

a). Acts 1:6, 7 When they therefore were come together, they asked of him, saying, Lord, wilt thou at this time restore again the kingdom to Israel?
1:7 And he said unto them, It is not for you to know the times or the seasons, which the Father hath put in his own power.

3). The restoration of the kingdom to Israel will occur after the return of Christ to this earth, which the Apostle Paul referred to as “his times” The times of Jesus Christ.

a). I Timothy 6:14, 15 That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukeable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ:
6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings and Lord of lords.

4). During the times of Jesus Christ, Jesus will be the be the Supreme ruler over all the earth.

a). Psalm 22:27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD; and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee. For the kingdom is the LORD’S: and he is the governor among the nations.

5). The absolute independent sovereignty of the nations will be taken from their respective capitals and given to Jesus, the Supreme ruler over all the earth. The first directive I see coming forth from Jerusalem to the nations is to disband their militaries. and the worship of Jesus the Great King in Jerusalem.

a). Isaiah 2:1-4 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
2:2 And it shall came to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD’S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow into it.
2:3 And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
2:4 And he shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war anymore.

b). Micah 4:1-3 But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
4:2 And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
4:3 And he shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

c). Isaiah 42:1-4 Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.
42:2 He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street.
42:3 A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth.
42:4 He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law.

6). Hallelujah, Jesus will set judgment in the earth, and the isles, all nations will wait for his law and it will come forth out of Jerusalem as Isaiah and Micah declare. Another directive or “law” is that all nations will come up to Jerusalem to keep the Feast of Tabernacles

a). Zechariah 14:16 And it shall come to pass, that every one that is left of all the nations which came against Jerusalem shall even go up from year to year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the feast of tabernacles.”

7). It appears that the whole earth will be under a Jewish calendar.

a). Isaiah 66:23 And it shall come to pass, [that] from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD.
