1 Timothy 4:9

1 Timothy 4:9

This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptation.

a. NLT: This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it.

b. NIV: This is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance.

c. YLT: Stedfast is the word, and of all acceptation worthy;

d. Amplified Bible Classic: This saying is reliable and worthy of complete acceptance by everybody.

e. Worrell Translation: Faithful is the saying, and worthy of all acceptance.

f. Wuest Translation: This is a trustworthy word and worthy of every acceptance.

1. “This is a faithful saying…”

a. [This is a] faithful [Strong: 4103 pistos pis-tos' from 3982; objectively, trustworthy; subjectively, trustful:--believe(-ing, -r), faithful(-ly), sure, true.] [Vines: faithful, trustworthy.]

b. saying [Strong: 3056 logos log'-os from 3004; something said (including the thought); by implication, a topic (subject of discourse), also reasoning (the mental faculty) or motive; by extension, a computation; specially, (with the article in John) the Divine Expression (i.e. Christ):--account, cause, communication, X concerning, doctrine, fame, X have to do, intent, matter, mouth, preaching, question, reason, + reckon, remove, say(-ing), shew, X speaker, speech, talk, thing, + none of these things move me, tidings, treatise, utterance, word, work.]

1). What was just said by the Apostle Paul about the spiritual and physical benefits of godliness is a trustworthy word, but what a mouthful.

2. “…and worthy of all acceptation.”

a. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

b. worthy [Strong: 514  axios ax'-ee-os probably from 71; deserving, comparable or suitable (as if drawing praise):--due reward, meet, (un-)worthy.] [Thayer’s: weighing, having weight, having the weight of another thing of like value, worth as much.]

c. of all [Strong: 3956 pas pas including all the forms of declension; apparently a primary word; all, any, every, the whole:--all (manner of, means), alway(-s), any (one), X daily, + ever, every (one, way), as many as, + no(-thing), X thoroughly, whatsoever, whole, whosoever.]

1). The Greek definition of the word for worthy says it clearly, Paul’s statement about godliness is very heavy, it should carry a lot of weight with us.

d. acceptation [Strong: 594  apodoche ap-od-okh-ay' from 588; acceptance:--acceptation.]
