Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world? and if the world shall be judged by you, are ye unworthy to judge the smallest matters?

1. “Do ye not know that the saints shall judge the world…”

j. [to] judge [Strong: 2922. kriterion kree-tay'-ree-on neuter of a presumed derivative of 2923; a rule of judging ("criterion"), i.e. (by implication) a tribunal:--to judge, judgment (seat).]


k. [the] smallest matters [Strong: 1646. elachistos el-akh'-is-tos superlative of elachus (short); used as equivalent to 3398; least (in size, amount, dignity, etc.):--least, very little (small), smallest.]


 1). In the Gospel of Matthew Jesus gives us an interesting revelation when it is compared with what the Apostle Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians.


a). Matthew 12:38-42 Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. 

12:39 But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: 

12:40 For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. 

12:41 The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. 

12:42 The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.


b). The revelation is clear from comparing these verses. The people of Nineveh who repented from Jonah’s message are in heaven and also the Queen of Sheba also will be in heaven because Paul writes in this verse that the saints will judge the world.


2). The seven angels that pour out the seven last plagues in Revelation 16, are men. As we shall eventually see further down in this study, they appear in Revelation 17, Revelation 21 and Revelation 22 also. They are found in Revelation 16:1-4, 16:8, 10, 12 & 17. One of these seven angels shows John the judgment of the great whore, the apostate church (Revelation 17:1), and we can follow this angel’s activity all through chapter 17 very simply (Revelation 17:1-3, 7, 15). After Revelation 17 we do not hear from this angel again for a while. We do not see any of these seven angels again until four chapters later in Revelation 21.


a). Revelation 21:9, 10 And there came unto me one of the seven angels which had the seven vials full of the seven last plagues, and talked with me, saying, Come hither, I will shew thee the bride, the Lamb’s wife.

21:10 And he carried me away in the spirit to a great and high mountain, and shewed me that great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God,


b). Revelation 21:15 And he that talked with me had a golden reed to measure the city, and the gates thereof, and the wall thereof.


c). Revelation 21:17 And he measured the wall thereof, an hundred and forty and four cubits, according to the measure of a man, that is, of the angel.


3). It is unclear if this is the same angel from Revelation 17, but regardless, it is one of the seven angels of Revelation 15:1 and Revelation 16. We can also follow this angel’s activity in Revelation 22 very easily.


a). Revelation 22:1 And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.


b). Revelation 22:6 And he said unto me, These sayings are faithful and true: and the Lord God of the holy prophets sent his angel to shew unto his servants the things which must shortly be done.


4). Later in in chapter 22 a very interesting thing happens when John begins to worship this “angel”. 


a). Revelation 22:9, 10 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.

22:10 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.


5). This “angel” told John not to worship him because “…I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets…”


6). These seven angels were in reality seven men, probably Old Testament prophets who were given the honor of dispensing the wrath of God on a world that had rejected God. This school of thought lines up with the rest of Scripture as to the responsibilities of redeemed men and women. I am not saying that redeemed men and women become angels, such thinking is hogwash. Men and angels are two different creations, each occupying a distinct place in God’s overall creation. What I am saying is these were redeemed men probably Old Testament prophets who were chosen by God to dispense His wrath upon the nations and John identified them as “messengers”. Again, this lines up with the rest of Scripture as to the future rewards and responsibilities given to men and women who were faithful during their lives on earth.

6:3 Know ye not that we shall judge angels? how much more things that pertain to this life?


b). Revelation 20:4 And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.


c). Luke 19:11-27.
