2 Corinthians 9:8

And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:

a. NLT: And God will generously provide all you need. Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.

b. NIV: And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.

c. YLT: And God is able all grace to cause to abound to you, that in every thing always all sufficiency having, ye may abound to every good work,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].

e. Worrell Translation: And God is able to make all grace abound to you: that ye, always having all sufficiency in every thing, may abound to every good work.

f. Wuest Translation: Moreover, God is powerful to make every grace superabound to you in order that, having always an all-sufficiency in all things, you may superabound to every good work.

1. “And God is able to make all grace abound toward you…”

c. is able [Strong: 1415 dunatos doo-nat-os' from 1410; powerful or capable (literally or figuratively); neuter possible:--able, could, (that is) mighty (man), possible, power, strong.]

d. to make…abound [Strong 4052 perisseuo per-is-syoo'-o to superabound (in quantity or quality), be in excess, be superfluous; also (transitively) to cause to superabound or excel:--(make, more) abound, (have, have more) abundance (be more) abundant, be the better, enough and to spare, exceed, excel, increase, be left, redound, remain (over and above).][Thayer: to exceed a fixed number of measure, to be left over and above a certain number or measure, to be over, to remain, to exist or be at hand in abundance, to be great (abundant), a thing which comes in abundance, or overflows unto one, something falls to the lot of one in large measure, to redound unto, turn out abundantly for, a thing, to abound, overflow, to be abundantly furnished with, to have in abundance, abound in (a thing), to be in affluence, to be pre-eminent, to excel, to excel more than, exceed, to make to abound, to furnish one richly so that he has abundance, to make abundant or excellent.][Zodhiates: to be in excess, exceed in number or measure, in the NT to be or have more than enough.]

e. grace [Strong: 5485 charis khar'-ece from 5463; graciousness (as gratifying), of manner or act (abstract or concrete; literal, figurative or spiritual; especially the divine influence upon the heart, and its reflection in the life; including gratitude):--acceptable, benefit, favour, gift, grace(- ious), joy, liberality, pleasure, thank(-s, -worthy).]

f. toward [Strong: 1519 eis ice a primary preposition; to or into (indicating the point reached or entered), of place, time, or (figuratively) purpose (result, etc.); also in adverbial phrases:--(abundant-)ly, against, among, as, at, (back-)ward, before, by, concerning, + continual, + far more exceeding, for (intent, purpose), fore, + forth, in (among, at, unto, -so much that, -to), to the intent that, + of one mind, + never, of, (up-)on, + perish, + set at one again, (so) that, therefore(-unto), throughout, til, to (be, the end, -ward), (here-)until(-to), ...ward, (where-)fore, with. a). [RSV] “And God is able to provide you with every blessing in abundance…”

b). [ASV] “And God is able to make all grace abound unto you…”

c). [Darby Translation] “But God is able to make every gracious gift abound towards you…”

d). [Amplified Bible] “And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance…”

2). God’s purpose or ideal in this is revealed in the next portion of the verse.

2. “…that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work.”

a. that [ye] [Strong: 2443 hina hin'-ah probably from the same as the former part of 1438 (through the demonstrative idea; compare 3588); in order that (denoting the purpose or the result):--albeit, because, to the intent (that), lest, so as, (so) that, (for) to.]

b. aways [Strong: 3842 pantote pan'-tot-eh from 3956 and 3753; every when, i.e. at all times:--alway(-s), ever(-more).] [Zodhiates: {pantote; pan-all; tote-then} always, at all times, ever.]

c. having [Strong: 2192 echo ekh'-o, including an alternate form scheo skheh'-o; (used in certain tenses only) a primary verb; to hold (used in very various applications, literally or figuratively, direct or remote; such as possession; ability, contiuity, relation, or condition):--be (able, X hold, possessed with), accompany, + begin to amend, can(+ -not), X conceive, count, diseased, do + eat, + enjoy, + fear, following, have, hold, keep, + lack, + go to law, lie, + must needs, + of necessity, + need, next, + recover, + reign, + rest, + return, X sick, take for, + tremble, + uncircumcised, use.]

c. sufficiency [Strong: 841 autarkeia { autarkeia; autos-himself; arkeo-to suffice} ow-tar'-ki-ah from 842; self-satisfaction, i.e. (abstractly) contentedness, or (concretely) a competence:--contentment, sufficiency.] [Thayer: a perfect condition of life in which no aid or support is needed, sufficiency of the necessities of life, a mind contented with its lot, contentment] [Zodhiates: Self-sufficiency in a good sense, sufficiency with oneself as spoken of a satisfied mind or disposition, spoken of the necessities of life, contentment.]

d. in [Strong: 1722 en en a primary preposition denoting (fixed) position (in place, time or state), and (by implication) instrumentality (medially or constructively), i.e. a relation of rest (intermediate between 1519 and 1537); "in," at, (up-)on, by, etc.:--about, after, against, + almost, X altogether, among, X as, at, before, between, (here-)by (+ all means), for (... sake of), + give self wholly to, (here-)in(-to, -wardly), X mightily, (because) of, (up-)on, (open-)ly, X outwardly, one, X quickly, X shortly, (speedi-)ly, X that, X there(-in, -on), through(-out), (un-)to(-ward), under, when, where(-with), while, with(-in). i. good [Strong: 18 agathos ag-ath-os' a primary word; "good" (in any sense, often as noun):--benefit, good(-s, things), well.]

j. work [Strong: 2041 ergon er'-gon from a primary (but obsolete) ergo (to work); toil (as an effort or occupation); by implication, an act:--deed, doing, labour, work.]

1). There is no doubt that the Amplified Translations gives the best understanding.

a). [Amplified Bible] And God is able to make all grace (every favor and earthly blessing) come to you in abundance, so that you may always and under all circumstances and whatever the need be self-sufficient [possessing enough to require no aid or support and furnished in abundance for every good work and charitable donation].

2). The bottom line in this is that the Scripture be fulfilled completely, that God’s covenant people be blessed enough to bless others, to be a blessing.
