Acts 2:33
Therefore
being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the
promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.
a.
NLT: Now he is exalted to the place of highest honor in heaven, at God’s right
hand. And the Father, as he had promised, gave him the Holy Spirit to pour out
upon us, just as you see and hear today.
b.
NIV: Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the
promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
c.
YLT: at the right hand then of God having been exalted -- also the promise of
the Holy Spirit having received from the Father -- he was shedding forth this,
which now ye see and hear;
d.
Amplified Bible: Being therefore lifted high by and to the
right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promised
[blessing which is the] Holy Spirit, He has made this outpouring which you
yourselves both see and hear.
e.
Worrell Translation: Being, therefore, exalted at the right hand of God, and
having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He was pouring
forth this which ye both see and hear.
1.”Therefore
being by the right hand of God exalted…”
a.
therefore [3767 * oun] [Strong: apparently
a primary word; (adverbially) certainly, or (conjunctionally) accordingly:--and

wherefore.]

1).
Peter is continuing his preaching the resurrection of Christ, and he ties it to
Psalms 110:1. Psalms 110:1 is the most quoted and alluded to Old Testament
verse in the New Testament. Peter here is quoting Psalm 110:1. This verse is
the most quoted Old Testament verse in the New Testament. It is quoted or
alluded to 16 times in the New Testament: Matthew 22:44; 26:64; Mark 16:19;
Luke 20:42, 43; Acts 2:33-36; Romans 8:34; 1 Corinthians 15:25; Ephesians 1:20;
2:6; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:#; 1:13; 8:1; 10:12, 13; 12:2.
2).
The frequency and importance of Psalm 110:1 being quoted is this: the sitting
down of Christ at the right hand of God is the beginning of the establishment
of the New Covenant. From this point on, the New Covenant is given, beginning
with the out pouring of the Holy Ghost.
2. “…and
having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost…”

1).
This is what Jesus was referring to in some of his teaching to the disciples
concerning “the promise”
a).
Luke 24:49 And, behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye
in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from on high.
b).
John 14:16, 17 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another
Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever.
14:17
Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him
not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall
be in you.
c).
John 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go
away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart,
I will send him unto you.

g.
and [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently,
a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force;

hear [191 * akouo] [Strong: a primary verb; to hear (in various senses):--give
(in the) audience (of), come (to the ears), (shall) hear(-er, -ken), be noised,

1).
One of the things being established in this passage is that speaking in tongues
is the only tangible evidence of being filled with the Holy Ghost. If you are
filled with the Holy Ghost, you will speak in tongues if you are obedient. What
they saw and what they heard was the speaking in tongues.
a).
Acts 2:7, 8 And they were all amazed and marveled, saying one to another,
Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
2:8
And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
2).
Seconds later Peter made this revealing statement about the promise of the
baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. It
was for every believer, then and now!
a).
Acts 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that
are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.
3).
The Lord is still calling!
