1 Thessalonians 3:4

1 Thessalonians 3:4

For verily, when we were with you, we told you before that we should suffer tribulation; even as it came to pass, and ye know.

a. NLT: Even while we were with you, we warned you that troubles would soon come—and they did, as you well know.

b. NIV: In fact, when we were with you, we kept telling you that we would be persecuted. And it turned out that way, as you well know.

c. YLT: For even when we were with you, we said to you beforehand, that we are about to suffer tribulation, as also it did come to pass, and ye have known it;

d. Amplified Bible Classic: For even when we were with you, [you know] we warned you plainly beforehand that we were to be pressed with difficulties and made to suffer affliction, just as to your own knowledge it has [since] happened.

e. Worrell Translation: For even when we were with you, we told you beforehand, “We are about to suffer tribulation”; even as also it came to pass, and ye know.

f. Wuest Translation: For also when we were with you, we kept on telling you beforehand that we are destined to be suffering affliction, even as also it came to pass and you know well.

1). Timothy’s message was for them not to be moved by these afflictions. Do not let these events cause you to throw away your faith. Before these things happened Paul had warned them that persecution was coming and of course it did, so he was exhorting them not to be moved by them.
