Zephaniah 3:11
In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy doings,
wherein thou hast transgressed against me: for then I will take away out of the
midst of thee them that rejoice in thy pride, and thou shalt no more be haughty
because of my holy mountain.
a. NLT: On that day you will no longer need to be
ashamed, for you will no longer be rebels against me. I will remove all proud
and arrogant people from among you. There will be no more haughtiness on my
holy mountain.
b. NIV: On that day you,
Jerusalem, will not be put to shame for all the wrongs you have done to me,
because I will remove from you your arrogant boasters. Never again will you be
haughty on my holy hill.
c. YLT: In that day thou art not
ashamed because of any of thine actions, Wherewith thou hast transgressed
against Me, For then do I turn aside from thy midst The exulting ones of thine
excellency, And thou dost add no more to be haughty, In My holy mountain.

1. “In that day shalt thou not be ashamed for all thy
doings, wherein thou hast transgressed against me…”

d. wherein thou hast transgressed
[6586 * pasha`] [Strong: a primitive root (identical with 6585 through
the idea of expansion); to break away (from just authority), i.e. trespass,
apostatize, quarrel:--offend, rebel, revolt, transgress(-ion, -or).]
1). As said previously, the context
of this passage Zephaniah 3:8-20, is the second coming of Christ, on into the
Millennial Reign of Christ. This verse will help establish that truth.
Immediately after the second coming
of Christ there is going to be an intense period of mourning that Israel will
experience after they receive the revelation that Jesus is their Messiah. This
period will last perhaps as much as 70 days (see my notes on Zechariah
12:10-14).
a). Zechariah 12:10-14 And I will
pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit
of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have
pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and
shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
12:11 In that day shall there be a
great mourning in Jerusalem, as the mourning of Hadadrimmon in the valley of
Megiddon.
12:12 And the land shall mourn,
every family apart; the family of the house of David apart, and their wives
apart; the family of the house of Nathan apart, and their wives apart;
12:13 The family of the house of
Levi apart, and their wives apart; the family of Shimei apart, and their wives
apart;
12:14 All the families that
remain, every family apart, and their wives apart.
2). During this time there will
also be a period of Israel acknowledging and repenting of their sin. This is
why the verse says “thou not be ashamed for all thy doings, wherein thou hast
transgressed against me”, for they will have already repented.
a). Ezekiel 36:31-33 Then shall ye
remember your own evil ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall
lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations.
36:32 Not for your sakes do I
this, saith the Lord GOD, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for
your own ways, O house of Israel.
36:33 Thus saith the Lord GOD; In
the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also
cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded.
b). Ezekiel 20:43 And there shall
ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and
ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have
committed.
3). This is why the prophet declares
that Israel will no longer be ashamed of their doings, for it will be after the
mourning and loathing. Then there will be a an eternal forgiveness and
restoration of God and his people.
2. “…for then I will take away out of the midst of thee them
that rejoice in thy pride…”

d. in thy pride [1346 * ga`avah]
[Strong: from 1342; arrogance or majesty; by implication, (concretely)
ornament:--excellency, haughtiness, highness, pride, proudly, swelling.]
1). There is a pride that some in
the Jewish community exhibit because of their relationship with the one true
God, it is a pride that has distorted their faith. John the Baptist confronted
this spirit when he was preaching the coming of the Messiah.
a). Matthew 3:1-9 In those days
came John the Baptist, preaching in the wilderness of Judaea,
3:2 And saying, Repent ye: for the
kingdom of heaven is at hand.
3:3 For this is he that was spoken
of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness,
Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.
3:4 And the same John had his
raiment of camel's hair, and a leathern girdle about his loins; and his meat was
locusts and wild honey.
3:5 Then went out to him
Jerusalem, and all Judaea, and all the region round about Jordan,
3:6 And were baptized of him in
Jordan, confessing their sins.
3:7 But when he saw many of the
Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of
vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
3:8 Bring forth therefore fruits
meet for repentance:
3:9 And think not to say within
yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, that God is able
of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.
2). All these sins will be dealt
with during the time of repentance and mourning.
3. “…and thou shalt no more be haughty because of my holy
mountain.”
