Romans 4:24
But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe
on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead;
a. NLT: for our benefit, too,
assuring us that God will also count us as righteous if we believe in him, the
one who raised Jesus our Lord from the dead.
b. NIV: but also for us, to whom
God will credit righteousness—for us who believe in him who raised Jesus our
Lord from the dead.
c. YLT: but also on ours, to whom
it is about to be reckoned -- to us believing on Him who did raise up Jesus our
Lord out of the dead,
d. Amplified Bible Classic: But
[they were written] for our sakes too. [Righteousness, standing acceptable to
God] will be granted and credited to us also who believe in
(trust in, adhere to, and rely on) God, Who raised Jesus our Lord from the
dead,
e. Worrell Translation: but for
ours also, to whom it will be reckoned, if we believe on Him Who raised Jesus
our Lord from the dead.
1. “But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed…”
a. But [235 * alla] [Strong: neuter
plural of 243; properly, other things, i.e. (adverbially) contrariwise (in many
relations):--and, but (even), howbeit, indeed, nay, nevertheless, no,
notwithstanding, save, therefore, yea, yet.]
b. for [1223 * dia] [Strong: a
primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide
applications, local, causal, or occasional):--after, always, among, at, to
avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) ... fore, from, in, by
occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though,
through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same
general importance.]
c. us [2248 * hemas] [Strong: accusative
case plural of 1473; us:--our, us, we.]
d. also [2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently,
a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force;
and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition)
with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or,
so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
e. to whom [3739 * hos; including
feminine he, and neuter ho] [Strong: probably a primary word (or
perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative)
pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what,
which, who(-m, -se), etc.]
f. it shall be [3195 * mello]
[Strong: a strengthened form of 3199 (through the idea of expectation); to
intend, i.e. be about to be, do, or suffer something (of persons or things,
especially events; in the sense of purpose, duty, necessity, probability,
possibility, or hesitation):--about, after that, be (almost), (that which is,
things, + which was for) to come, intend, was to (be), mean, mind, be at the
point, (be) ready, + return, shall (begin), (which, that) should (after,
afterwards, hereafter) tarry, which was for, will, would, be yet.]
g. imputed [3049 *
logizomai][Strong: to take an inventory, i.e. estimate (literally or
figuratively):--conclude, (ac-)count (of), + despise, esteem, impute, lay,
number, reason, reckon, suppose, think (on).]
1). What will be imputed is of course
the righteousness of God that was imputed to Abraham because he believed God’s
word concerning the conception and birth of Isaac. Here he declares the
righteousness of God will be given to us.
2. “…if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from
the dead;”
a. if we believe [4100 * pisteuo]
[Strong: from 4102; to have faith (in, upon, or with respect to, a person or
thing), i.e. credit; by implication, to entrust (especially one's spiritual
well-being to Christ):--believe(-r), commit (to trust), put in trust with.]
b. on [1909 * epi] [Strong: a
primary preposition; properly, meaning superimposition (of time, place, order,
etc.), as a relation of distribution (with the genitive case), i.e. over, upon,
etc.; of rest (with the dative case) at, on, etc.; of direction (with the
accusative case) towards, upon, etc.:--about (the times), above, after,
against, among, as long as (touching), at, beside, X have charge of, (be-,
(where-))fore, in (a place, as much as, the time of, -to), (because) of,
(up-)on (behalf of), over, (by, for) the space of, through(-out),
(un-)to(-ward), with. In compounds it retains essentially the same import, at,
upon, etc. (literally or figuratively).]
c. him that raised up [1453 * egeiro]
[Strong: probably akin to the base of 58 (through the idea of collecting one's
faculties); to waken (transitively or intransitively), i.e. rouse (literally,
from sleep, from sitting or lying, from disease, from death; or figuratively,
from obscurity, inactivity, ruins, nonexistence):--awake, lift (up), raise
(again, up), rear up, (a-)rise (again, up), stand, take up.]
d. Jesus [2424 * Iesous] [Strong: of
Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two
(three) other Israelites:--Jesus.]
e. our [2257 * hemon] [Strong: genitive
case plural of 1473; of (or from) us:--our (company), us, we.]
f. Lord [2962 * kurios] [Strong: from
kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun) controller; by
implication, Master (as a respectful title):-- God, Lord, master, Sir.]
g. from [1537 * ek or ex] [Strong:
a primary preposition denoting origin (the point whence action or motion
proceeds), from, out (of place, time, or cause; literal or figurative; direct
or remote):--after, among, X are, at, betwixt(-yond), by (the means of),
exceedingly, (+ abundantly above), for(- th), from (among, forth, up), +
grudgingly, + heartily, X heavenly, X hereby, + very highly, in, ...ly,
(because, by reason) of, off (from), on, out among (from, of), over, since, X
thenceforth, through, X unto, X vehemently, with(-out). Often used in
composition, with the same general import; often of completion.]
h. the dead [3498 * nekros]
[Strong: from an apparently primary nekus (a corpse); dead (literally or
figuratively; also as noun):--dead.]
1). If we believe the record of
what God accomplished for us through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus
the same righteousness of God will be imputed to us. It is how we get saved, how
we enter into Covenant with God.
a). Romans 3:21, 22 But now the
righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law
and the prophets;
3:22 Even the righteousness of God
which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for
there is no difference:
b). Romans 10:9 That if thou shalt
confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that
God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
