2 Timothy 1:10

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

a. NLT: And now he has made all of this plain to us by the appearing of Christ Jesus, our Savior. He broke the power of death and illuminated the way to life and immortality through the Good News.

b. NIV: But it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.

    

c. YLT: And was made manifest now through the manifestation of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who indeed did abolish death, and did enlighten life and immortality through the good news,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: [It is that purpose and grace] which He now has made known and has fully disclosed and made real [to us] through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, Who annulled death and made it of no effect and brought life and immortality (immunity from eternal death) to light through the Gospel.

e. Worrell Translation: But now made manifest through the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus; Who abolished death, and brought to light life and incorruption through the Gospel.

f. Wuest Translation: But has now been made known through the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, since He not only made of none effect the death, but also brought to light life and incorruption through the good news.

1. “But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ…”

c. made manifest [Strong: 5319 phaneroo fan-er-o'-o from 5318; to render apparent (literally or figuratively):--appear, manifestly declare, (make) manifest (forth), shew (self).] [Zodhiates: To make apparent, manifest, known, show openly.]

d. by [Strong: 1223 dia dee-ah' a primary preposition denoting the channel of an act; through (in very wide applications, local, causal, or occasional):--after, always, among, at, to avoid, because of (that), briefly, by, for (cause) ... fore, from, in, by occasion of, of, by reason of, for sake, that, thereby, therefore, X though, through(-out), to, wherefore, with (-in). In composition it retains the same general importance.]

f. appearing [Strong: 2015 epiphaneia ep-if-an'-i-ah from 2016; a manifestation, i.e. (specially) the advent of Christ (past or future):--appearing, brightness.] [Zodhiates: An appearing, appearance…spoken of the first advent of the Lord Jesus.]

g. of our [Strong: 2257 hemon hay-mone' genitive case plural of 1473; of (or from) us:--our (company), us, we.]

h. Saviour [Strong: 4990 soter so-tare' from 4982; a deliverer, i.e. God or Christ:--saviour.]

i. Jesus [Strong: 2424 Iesous ee-ay-sooce' of Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:--Jesus.]

j. Christ [Strong: 5547 Christos khris-tos' from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]

1). Our heavenly calling has been made manifest by the appearing of Jesus Christ. Our calling is to be transformed into his image, so it is not a surprise that our calling is made manifest by his appearing.

2. “…who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.”

a. who [Strong: 3303 men men a primary particle; properly, indicative of affirmation or concession (in fact); usually followed by a contrasted clause with 1161 (this one, the former, etc.):--even, indeed, so, some, truly, verily. Often compounded with other particles in an intensive or asseverative sense.]

b. [hath] abolished [Strong: 2673 katargeo kat-arg-eh'-o from 2596 and 691; to be (render) entirely idle (useless), literally or figuratively:--abolish, cease, cumber, deliver, destroy, do away, become (make) of no (none, without) effect, fail, loose, bring (come) to nought, put away (down), vanish away, make void.]

c. death [Strong: 2288 thanatos than'-at-os from 2348; (properly, an adjective used as a noun) death (literally or figuratively):--X deadly, (be...) death.]

e. [hath brought] life [Strong: 2222 zoe dzo-ay' from 2198; life (literally or figuratively):--life(-time).]

k. gospel [Strong: 2098 euaggelion yoo-ang-ghel'-ee-on from the same as 2097; a good message, i.e. the gospel:--gospel.]

1). The use of “brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” was not only the purpose of Christ it is also our purpose.

a). 2 Corinthians 4:6 For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
