Corinthians 9:5
Have we not power
to lead about a sister, a wife, as well as other apostles, and as the brethren
of the Lord, and Cephas?
a. NLT: Don’t we have the
right to bring a Christian wife with us as the other apostles and the Lord’s
brothers do, and as Peter does?
b. NIV: Don’t we have the
right to take a believing wife along with us, as do the other apostles and the
Lord’s brothers and Cephasfn?
c. YLT: have we not
authority a sister -- a wife -- to lead about, as also the other apostles, and
the brethren of the Lord, and Cephas?
d. Amplified Bible: Have we not the right also to take along
with us a Christian sister as wife, as do the other apostles and the Lord’s
brothers and Cephas (Peter)?
e. Worrell Translation:
Have we no right to lead about a sister as our wife, even as the rest of the
apostles, and the brothers of the Lord, and Cephas?

certain tenses only) a primary verb; to hold (used in very various
applications, literally or figuratively, direct or remote; such as possession;
ability, contiuity, relation, or condition):--be (able, X hold, possessed
with), accompany, + begin to amend, can(+ -not), X conceive, count, diseased,
do + eat, + enjoy, + fear, following, have, hold, keep, + lack, + go to law,
lie, + must needs, + of necessity, + need, next, + recover, + reign, + rest, +
return, X sick, take for, + tremble, + uncircumcised, use.]
b. not[3378 * me ouk]
[Strong: 3361 and 3756; as interrogative and negative, is it not
that?:--neither (followed by no), + never, not.]
c. power [1849 * exousia]
[Strong: from 1832 (in the sense of ability); privilege, i.e. (subjectively)
force, capacity, competency, freedom, or (objectively) mastery (concretely,
magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated
influence:--authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.]
d. to lead about
[4013 * periago] [Strong: from 4012 and 71; to take around (as a companion);
reflexively, to walk around:--compass, go (round) about, lead about.]
e. a sister [79 * adelphe]
[Strong: fem of 80; a sister (naturally or ecclesiastically):--sister.]
f. a wife [1135 * gune]
[Strong: probably from the base of 1096; a woman; specially, a
wife:--wife, woman.]
2.
“…as well as other apostles…”
a. as well as [5613
* hos] [Strong: probably adverb of comparative from 3739; which how, i.e. in
that manner (very variously used, as follows):--about, after (that),
(according) as (it had been, it were), as soon (as), even as (like), for, how
(greatly), like (as, unto), since, so (that), that, to wit, unto,
when(-soever), while, X with all speed.]
1).
[2532 * kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and
sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often
used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and,
also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
b. other [3062 * loipoy]
[Strong: masculine plural of a derivative of 3007; remaining
ones:--other, which remain, remnant, residue, rest.]
c. apostles [652 *
apostolos] [Strong: from 649; a delegate; specially, an ambassador of the
Gospel; officially a commissioner of Christ ("apostle") (with
miraculous powers):--apostle, messenger, he that is sent.]
1).
This confirms that not only were some of the other apostles married, but they
brought their wives along with them as they ministered.
3. “…and as the
brethren of the Lord…”
a. and [2532 *
kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes
also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in
connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also,
both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
b. the brethren
[80 * adelphos] [Strong: from 1 (as a connective particle) and delphus (the
womb); a brother (literally or figuratively) near or remote (much like
1):--brother.]
c. the Lord [2962
* kurios] [Strong: from kuros (supremacy); supreme in authority, i.e. (as noun)
controller; by implication, Master (as a respectful title):-- God, Lord,
master, Sir.]
1).
This shows that the Lord’s own flesh [half] brothers were married.
4. “…and Cephas.”
a. and and [2532 *
kai] [Strong: apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes
also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in
connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also,
both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]
b. Cephas [2786 * Kephas]
[Strong: of Chaldee origin (compare 3710); the Rock; Cephas (i.e. Kepha), a
surname of Peter:--Cephas.]
1).
Peter was married.
a). Matthew 8:14,
15 And when Jesus was come into Peter’s house, he saw his wife’s mother laid,
and sick of a fever.
8:15 And he
touched her hand, and the fever left her: and she arose, and ministered unto
them.
