Culture War

When the battle between good and evil is characterized as a culture war, it’s too late for mere man to dig America out of the hole she’s gotten herself into. When the differences between right and wrong are described as just political and social issues, nothing short of Divine Intervention by God Almighty will save this nation.

Applying the terms “culture war” and “social issues” to the topic of abortion on demand reveal how far we’ve fallen. It shows that the former boundary lines (the ancient landmarks: Proverbs 22:28) of good and evil, right and wrong have been so far redrawn or removed that many who grew up inside these boundaries seriously question or just abandon them, or wonder if there are any boundaries. This shows there is a “culture” and a “society” that believe good is evil and evil is good. This condition brings us to Isaiah 5:20, 24:

“Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!…Therefore as the fire devoureth the stubble, and the flame consumeth the chaff, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust: because they have cast away the law of
the LORD of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.”

Many in America are confusing ‘free will’ with ‘rights’. A “right” is a license--a permission slip, so to speak--granted by a higher authority that allows us to engage in a particular action legally without the threat of consequences. Yes, the Supreme Court has given us the legal right to kill our unborn children but it is not a God-given right. God will never sanction a behavior or an action that violates His Word. He will eventually call the individual to account, if not in this life, then surely at Judgment Day. Sometimes it’s both.

Isaiah 10:1 “Woe unto them that decree unrighteous decrees, and that write grievousness which they have prescribed.”

God has given us a free will but that does not mean we can choose to do whatever we want without suffering the consequences. He gave Israel a free will.

Deuteronomy 30:17-19 “But if thine heart turn away, so that thou wilt not hear, but shalt be drawn away, and worship other gods, and serve them; I denounce unto you this day, that ye shall surely perish, and that ye shall not prolong your days upon the land…I call heaven and earth to record this day against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing: therefore choose life, that both thou and thy seed may live.”

Israel had the free will to worship other gods, but not the right. God has given us our free will to do what we ought, not what we can.
