    1 Peter 1:1

Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

a. NLT: This letter is from Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ. I am writing to God’s chosen people who are living as foreigners in the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.

b. NIV: Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, To God’s elect, exiles scattered throughout the provinces of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia and Bithynia,

c. YLT: Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the choice sojourners of the dispersion of Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

d. Amplified Bible Classic: Peter, an apostle (a special messenger) of Jesus Christ, [writing] to the elect exiles of the dispersion scattered (sowed) abroad in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,

e. Worrell Translation: Peter, an apostle of jesus Christ to the sojourners of the Dispersion in Pontus, Galatia, Capadocia, Asia, and Bithynia.

f. Wuest Translation: Peter, an ambassador of Jesus Christ, to those who have settled down alongside of a pagan population, sown as seed throughout Pontus, Galatia, Capadocia, Asis and Bithynia.

1. “Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ…”

a. Peter [Strong: 4074 Petros pet'-ros apparently a primary word; a (piece of) rock (larger than 3037); as a name, Petrus, an apostle:--Peter, rock.]

b. [an] apostle [Strong: 652 apostolos ap-os'-tol-os from 649; a delegate; specially, an ambassador of the Gospel; officially a commissioner of Christ ("apostle") (with miraculous powers):--apostle, messenger, he that is sent.]

c. [of] Jesus [Strong: 2424 Iesous ee-ay-sooce' of Hebrew origin (3091); Jesus (i.e. Jehoshua), the name of our Lord and two (three) other Israelites:--Jesus.]

d. Christ [Strong: 5547 Christos khris-tos' from 5548; anointed, i.e. the Messiah, an epithet of Jesus:--Christ.]

1). Peter was one of the disciples that the Lord chose to be an apostle.

a). Luke 6:12-16 And it came to pass in those days, that he went out into a mountain to pray, and continued all night in prayer to God.
6:13 And when it was day, he called unto him his disciples: and of them he chose twelve, whom also he named apostles;
6:14 Simon, (whom he also named Peter,) and Andrew his brother, James and John, Philip and Bartholomew,
6:15 Matthew and Thomas, James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon called Zelotes,
6:16 And Judas the brother of James, and Judas Iscariot, which also was the traitor.

2. “…to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,”

a. to the strangers [Strong: 3927 parepidemos par-ep-id'-ay-mos from 3844 and the base of 1927; an alien alongside, i.e. a resident foreigner:--pilgrim, stranger.] [Zodhiates: a foreigner who has settled down, however briefly, next to or among native people. [D.C. The same Greek word is translated “pilgrims” in Hebrews 11:13.]

1). This term is used in describing the Jews of the dispersion, who were scattered throughout these geographical areas, but we the born again people of God are also referred to as “pilgrim” and strangers and sojourners in this present world, so Peter is writing to all of us.

b. scattered [throughout] [Strong: 1290 diaspora dee-as-por-ah' from 1289; dispersion, i.e. (specially and concretely) the (converted) Israelite resident in Gentile countries:--(which are) scattered (abroad).]

c. Pontus [Strong: 4195 Pontos pon'-tos a sea; Pontus, a region of Asia Minor:--Pontus.]

d. Galatia [Strong: 1053 Galatia gal-at-ee'-ah of foreign origin; Galatia, a region of Asia:--Galatia.]

e. Cappadocia [Strong: 2587 Kappadokia kap-pad-ok-ee'-ah of foreign origin; Cappadocia, a region of Asia Minor:--Cappadocia.]

f. Asia [Strong: 773 Asia as-ee'-ah of uncertain derivation; Asia, i.e. Asia Minor, or (usually) only its western shore:--Asia.]

g. and [Strong: 2532 kai kahee apparently, a primary particle, having a copulative and sometimes also a cumulative force; and, also, even, so then, too, etc.; often used in connection (or composition) with other particles or small words:--and, also, both, but, even, for, if, or, so, that, then, therefore, when, yet.]

h. Bithynia [Strong: 978 978. Bithunia bee-thoo-nee'-ah of uncertain derivation; Bithynia, a region of Asia:--Bithynia.

1). As the map shows, the 5 geographical areas  mentioned cover almost the entire Asia minor area except for the smaller4 most southern areas.
