1 Peter 4:2
That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God.

1. “That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men…”
a. j. [to the] lusts [Strong: 1939. epithumia ep-ee-thoo-mee'-ah from 1937; a longing (especially for what is forbidden):--concupiscence, desire, lust (after).]
k. [of] men [Strong: 444. anthropos anth'-ro-pos from 435 and ops (the countenance; from 3700); man-faced, i.e. a human being:--certain, man.
1). This a continuation of the mindset of a godly man, that we are going to quit sinning, and that we are no longer going to live our lives catering to the flesh. Ignite and fuel that mindset with the power of God and you have a life of victory. Exactly what this means is spelled out in again in Romans.
a). 1). Romans 8:5-8 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
8:6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8:8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
3. “…but to the will of God.”
a. but [Strong: 235. alla al-lah' neuter plural of 243; properly, other things, i.e. (adverbially) contrariwise (in many relations):--and, but (even), howbeit, indeed, nay, nevertheless, no, notwithstanding, save, therefore, yea, yet.
b. [to the] will [Strong: 2307. thelema thel'-ay-mah from the prolonged form of 2309; a determination (properly, the thing), i.e. (actively) choice (specially, purpose, decree; abstractly, volition) or (passively) inclination:-- desire, pleasure, will.]
c. [of] God [Strong: 2316. theos theh'-os of uncertain affinity; a deity, especially (with 3588) the supreme Divinity; figuratively, a magistrate; by Hebraism, very:--X exceeding, God, god(-ly, -ward).]
1). The exact phrase the “will of God” is found 23 times in the King James Bible, but not all of them can be applied as it is applied here in Peter, contrasting the lusts and desires of men with the desire and will God has for us. Some however do and I will list them.
a). Romans 12:2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.
b). Galatians 1:4 Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father.
c). Ephesians 6:6 Not with eyeservice, as men pleasers; but as the servants of Christ, doing the will of God from the heart.
d). 1 Thessalonians 4:3, 4 For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:
That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour.
2). My mental attitude is I am no longer going to live according to the will of the flesh, but according to God’s will.
