Psalm 94:20

Psalm 94:20

Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frameth mischief by a law?

a. NLT: Can unjust leaders claim that God is on their side— leaders whose decrees permit injustice?

b. NIV: Can a corrupt throne be allied with you— a throne that brings on misery by its decrees?

c. YLT: Is a throne of mischief joined with Thee? A framer of perverseness by statute?

d. Amplified Bible: Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with You—they who frame and hide their unrighteous doings under [the sacred name of] law?

e. Septuagint Psalm 94:20 listed under Psalm 9320: Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee, which frames mischief by an ordinance?

f. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings: Can the throne of destruction be associated with You?—those who fashion evil into a statute.

1. “Shall the throne of iniquity have fellowship with thee…”

a. Shall the throne [3678 * kicce’][Strong: seat (of honour), throne, seat, stool, seat (of honour), throne, royal dignity, authority, power (fig.)

b. of iniquity [1942 * havvah][Strong: desire, desire (in bad sense), chasm (fig. of destruction), engulfing ruin, destruction, calamity.]

c. have fellowship [2266 * chabar] [Strong: a primitive root; to join (literally or figuratively); specifically (by means of spells) to fascinate:--charm(- er), be compact, couple (together), have fellowship with, heap up, join (self, together), league.]

1). Besides the Hebrew definitions given here, further descriptions are given in the rest of this verse and the next.

2. “…which frameth mischief by a law?”

a. which frameth [3335 * yatsar] [Strong: probably identical with 3334 (through the squeezing into shape); ((Compare 3331)); to mould into a form; especially as a potter; figuratively, to determine (i.e. form a resolution):--X earthen, fashion, form, frame, make(-r), potter, purpose.] [Gesenius: to form, to fashion, to form in the mind, to devise, to plan.]

b. mischief [5999 * ‘amal][Strong: toil, trouble, labour, trouble, trouble, mischief, toil, labour.]

c. by a law [2706 * choq] [Strong: from 2710; an enactment; hence, an appointment (of time, space, quantity, labor or usage):--appointed, bound, commandment, convenient, custom, decree(-d), due, law, measure, X necessary, ordinance(- nary), portion, set time, statute, task.]

1). This is what the “throne of iniquity” does, this is how they exercise the sacred authority entrusted them. As the Amplified describes, they hide their unrighteous doings under a law. The description of “throne of iniquity” of course could be applied to many governments, and during the course of world history there have been tens or even thousands of examples of “hiding iniquity under the sacred name of law”. In 1973 the godless wing of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision declaring a woman’s right to kill her un-born child established them as a throne of iniquity. All Supreme Courts since then that upheld that decision also likewise are thrones of iniquity. Any Presidential administration that agrees with that decision is a throne of iniquity. A good example would be during the 1990’s with the Clinton White House. Bill Clinton’s two veto’s of the Partial Birth Abortion Bill during his administration insured the abortion industry of millions of dollars at the expense of slaughtering infants able to survive outside the womb. He lied to the American public by saying partial birth abortion was a necessary procedure when in fact, medical experts said it wasn’t. Bill Clinton’s Presidency was a “throne of iniquity” in this respect.
