2 Timothy 4:15

Of whom be thou ware also; for he hath greatly withstood our words.

1. “Of whom be thou ware also…”

a. [Of] whom [Strong: 3739. hos hos, including feminine he hay, and neuter ho ho probably a primary word (or perhaps a form of the article 3588); the relatively (sometimes demonstrative) pronoun, who, which, what, that:--one, (an-, the) other, some, that, what, which, who(-m, -se), etc.]

b. Be] thou [Strong: 4771. su soo the person pronoun of the second person singular; thou:-- thou.] 

c. ware [Strong: 5442. phulasso foo-las'-so probably from 5443 through the idea of isolation; to watch, i.e. be on guard (literally of figuratively); by implication, to preserve, obey, avoid:--beward, keep (self), observe, save.] [Thayer: to guard,  to watch, keep watch,  to guard or watch, have an eye upon: lest he escape,  to guard a person (or thing) that he may remain safe, lest he suffer violence, be despoiled, etc. to protect to protect one from a person or thing,  to keep from being snatched away, preserve safe and unimpaired, to guard from being lost or perishing, to guard one's self from a thing, to guard i.e. care for, take care not to violate, to observe.]

2. “…for he hath greatly withstood our words.”

a. for [Strong: 1063. gar gar a primary particle; properly, assigning a reason (used in argument, explanation or intensification; often with other particles):--and, as, because (that), but, even, for, indeed, no doubt, seeing, then, therefore, verily, what, why, yet.

b. [he hath] greatly [Strong: 3029. lian lee'-an of uncertain affinity; much (adverbially):--exceeding, great(-ly), sore, very (+ chiefest).]

c. withstood [Strong: 436. anthistemi anth-is'-tay-mee from 473 and 2476; to stand against, i.e. oppose:--resist, withstand.] [Thayer: to set one's self against, to withstand, resist, oppose,  to set against.]

1). This is the same Greek word used in a number of New testament passages.

a). Acts 13:6-12  And when they had gone through the isle unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Barjesus:

13:7 Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

13:8 But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

13:9 Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him.

13:10And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

13:11 And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

13:12 Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

b). 2 Timothy 3:8 Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.

c). The English words withstood and resist are the same Greek words.

3). It is commonplace for believers in these last days to encounter unbelievers who greatly withstand our words.
