Psalm 91:16

Psalm 91:16

With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation.

a. NLT: I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”

b. NIV: With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

c. Amplified Bible: With long life will I satisfy him and show him My salvation.

d. Septuagint [Listed under Psalm 90:16]: I will satisfy him with length of days, and shew him my salvation.

1. “With long life will I satisfy him…”

a. long [753 * ‘orek][Strong: length:--+ forever, length, long.][Gesenius: length, physical length
of time, forbearance, self-restraint (of patience)]

b. life [3117 * yowm][Gesenius: day, time, year,  day (as opposed to night), day (24 hour period), as defined by evening and morning in Genesis 1, as a division of time, a working day, a day's journey, days, lifetime (pl.), time, period (general), year, temporal references, today, yesterday, tomorrow]

c. satisfy [7646 * saba’][Strong: a primitive root; to sate, i.e. fill to satisfaction (literally or figuratively):--have enough, fill (full, self, with), be (to the) full (of), have plenty of, be satiate, satisfy (with), suffice, be weary of.]

d. In more than a few passages God promises longer lives, but just as in this verse, it is conditional.

1). Proverbs 9:10, 11 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.
9:11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

2). Proverbs 10:27 The fear of the Lord prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

2. “…and shew him my salvation.”

a. shew [7200 * ra’ah][Strong: a primitive root; to see, literally or figuratively (in numerous applications, direct and implied, transitive, intransitive and causative):--advise self, appear, approve, behold, X certainly, consider, discern, (make to) enjoy, have experience, gaze, take heed, X indeed, X joyfully, lo, look (on, one another, one on another, one upon another, out, up, upon), mark, meet, X be near, perceive, present, provide, regard, (have) respect, (fore-, cause to, let) see(-r, -m, one another), shew (self), X sight of others, (e-)spy, stare, X surely, X think, view, visions.]

1). We see the salvation of God through revelation, we must get a revelation.

a). Romans 16:25, 26 Now to him that is of power to stablish you according to my gospel, and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery, which was kept secret since the world began,
16:26 But now is made manifest, and by the scriptures of the prophets, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, made known to all nations for the obedience of faith:

b. salvation [3444 * yeshuw’ah][Strong: something saved, i.e. (abstractly) deliverance; hence, aid, victory, prosperity:--deliverance, health, help(-ing), salvation, save, saving (health), welfare.]

1). We find salvation in the Scriptures. On a side note, when Paul was instructing a young Timothy in his second letter to him, the reference Paul gave to the “holy Scriptures” was the old testament.

a). 2 Timothy 3:15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.

c. There is an interesting Rabbanic teaching listed in the Tehillim under this verse that says: “He will witness the salvation I will bring about at the advent of the messiah, at the time of the revival of the dead, and the salvation of the World to Come (Radak).” This verse could loosely be translated, “I will show him Jesus”. Notice closely what it says when Gabriel was instructing Joseph on what to name the son of Mary.

1). Matthew 1:21 And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he              shall save his people from their sins.
