a. enquire [1833 * exetazo; ek-from; etazo-to examine][Strong: to test thoroughly (by questions), i.e. ascertain or interrogate:--ask, enquire, search.][Thayer: to search out to examine strictly, enquire, enquire of someone.]

1).Other than the definitions themselves there is a passage within this chapter that gives two characteristics of those who are not “worthy”. One is loving family members more than God and the other is refusing to take up the cross of discipleship.

a). Matthew 10:37, 38 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.
10:38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me.

2). There are other uses of this particular Greek word that have a bearing on the text. In its use it refers to our lifestyles our “fruits”. Our lives must back up our professions. If we profess to be Christians we must live like it.

a). Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham.

3). We must not reject the gospel.

a). Acts13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas waxed bold, and said, It was necessary that the word of God should first have been spoken to you: but seeing ye put it from you, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, lo, we turn to the Gentiles.

4). Pursue a lifestyle to grow in faith.

a). 2 Thessalonians 1:3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

3). “…and there abide till ye go thence.”

a. and there [2546 * kakei] [Strong: from 2532 and 1563; likewise in that place:--and there, there (thither) also.]

c. till [302 * an] [Strong: a primary particle, denoting a supposition, wish, possibility or uncertainty:--(what-, where-, wither-, who-)soever. Usually unexpressed except by the subjunctive or potential mood.]

1). [2193 * heos [Strong: of uncertain affinity; a conjunction, preposition and adverb of continuance, until (of time and place):--even (until, unto), (as) far (as), how long, (un-)til(-l), (hither-, un-, up) to, while(-s).]

d. ye go thence [1831 * exerchomai] [Strong: from 1537 and 2064; to issue (literally or figuratively):--come (forth, out), depart (out of), escape, get out, go (abroad, away, forth, out, thence), proceed (forth), spread abroad.]
