And it came to pass the same night, that the LORD said unto him, Take thy father's young bullock, even the second bullock of seven years old, and throw down the altar of Baal that thy father hath, and cut down the grove that is by it:

1). Gideon’s father and his neighbors had backslid and became idolators, engaging in worship of Baal and Asherah. Worship included sex, with female and male prostitutes (Deuteronomy 23:17, 18). Right before Israel’s entry into Canaan, they were seduced by the Moab and Midianite women in Baal worship. Twenty four thousand people lost their lives because of it (Numbers 25).

2). Just as Israelite culture had backslid and embraced this idolatry, American culture has also embraced the idolatry in it. Dividing families that were once united in faith in the one true God, are now divided with many children and parents embracing the same idolatry as the Israelites but under a different name.
