2 Timothy 1:5
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
a. NLT: I remember your genuine faith, for you share the faith that first filled your grandmother Lois and your mother, Eunice. And I know that same faith continues strong in you.
b. NIV: I am reminded of your sincere faith, which first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and, I am persuaded, now lives in you also.

1. “When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee…”
a. When I call [Strong: 2983 lambano lam-ban'-o a prolonged form of a primary verb, which is use only as an alternate in certain tenses; to take (in very many applications, literally and figuratively (properly objective or active, to get hold of; whereas 1209 is rather subjective or passive, to have offered to one; while 138 is more violent, to seize or remove)):--accept, + be amazed, assay, attain, bring, X when I call, catch, come on (X unto), + forget, have, hold, obtain, receive (X after), take (away, up).]

1). Paul was probably referring to the Jewish faith of his mother and grandmother. Timothy’s mother was a Jew.

1). Since his father was a Greek, the probable source for his mother being a Jew was the grandmother. The only other explanation, an improbable one, was that the grandmother received Christ first, then the mother, then Timothy.
a). Acts 16:1 “Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father was a Greek:
2). In 2 Timothy 3:15 Paul wrote that Timothy had been taught the Scriptures from infancy. When Timothy was an infant, the only scriptures were the Old Testament.
a). 2 Timothy 3:16 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Jesus Christ.

3). Timothy was already a disciple in Acts 16:1-3, approximately 52 A.D. Paul called Timothy his “son in the faith in 1Timothy 1:2. There is universal agreement that Paul led Timothy to the Lord. The only reasonable conclusion is that the faith that Paul spoke of was the family’s Jewish faith.
