Jude 16
These are murmurers, complainers, walking after their own lusts; and their mouth speaketh great swelling words, having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.
a. NLT: These people are grumblers and complainers, living only to satisfy their desires. They brag loudly about themselves, and they flatter others to get what they want.
b. NIV: These people are grumblers and faultfinders; they follow their own evil desires; they boast about themselves and flatter others for their own advantage.
c. YLT: These are murmurers, repiners; according to their desires walking, and their mouth doth speak great swellings, giving admiration to persons for the sake of profit;
d. Amplified Bible Classic: These are inveterate murmurers (grumblers) who complain [of their lot in life], going after their own desires [controlled by their passions]; their talk is boastful and arrogant, [and they claim to] admire men’s persons and pay people flattering compliments to gain advantage.

f. Wuest Translation: These are murmurers, complaining against their lot, ordering their course of conduct in accordance with their own passionate cravings, and their mouth speaks immoderate, extravagant things, catering to personalities for the sake of advantage.
g. Peshitta Eastern Text: These are the ones who murmur and complain, following after their own lusts, and their mouths speak idle flattering words, praising people for the sake of gain.

1). These: Jude 15 “…their hard speeches, which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”
2). These: Jude 4 “…ungodly men…denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.”
3). These ungodly ministers live and teach a Christ denying, flesh indulging gospel.
4). The religious of that day will seek out and sit under these false teachers, 2 Timothy 4:2-4.
a). 2 Timothy 4:2-4 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine.
4:3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;
4:4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.
5). The Apostle Peter in his second epistle warned of this twice.
a). 2 Peter 3:1-3 This second epistle, beloved, I now write unto you; in both which I stir up your pure minds by way of remembrance:
3:2 That ye may be mindful of the words which were spoken before by the holy prophets, and of the commandment of us the apostles of the Lord and Saviour:

e. great swelling [Strong: 5246 * huperogkos hoop-er'-ong-kos from 5228 and 3591; bulging over, i.e. (figuratively) insolent:--great swelling.]
1). 2 Peter 2:18, 19 For when they speak great swelling words of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through much wantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error.
2:19 While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption for of whom a man is overcome, of the same is he brought into bondage.
2). Jude writes that the goal of the boastful language is to gain the advantage of people. Peter writes that the goal of the great swelling words is to allure them through the lusts of the flesh.
3. “…having men’s persons in admiration because of advantage.”
a. having men’s persons [Strong: 4383 * prosopon pros'-o-pon from 4314 and ops (the visage, from 3700); the front (as being towards view), i.e. the countenance, aspect, appearance, surface; by implication, presence, person:--(outward) appearance, X before, countenance, face, fashion, (men's) person, presence.]
b. in admiration [Strong: 2296 * thaumazo thou-mad'-zo from 2295; to wonder; by implication, to admire:--admire, have in admiration, marvel, wonder.]
c. because [Strong: 5484 * charin khar'-in accusative case of 5485 as preposition; through favor of, i.e. on account of:--be-(for) cause of, for sake of, +...fore, X reproachfully.]
d. of advantage [Strong: 5622 * opheleia o-fel'-i-ah from a derivative of the base of 5624; usefulness, i.e. benefit:--advantage, profit.]
1). All of the translations above either say for advantage, for profit, for gain or to get what they want.
