Genesis 19:24

Genesis 19:24

Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven.

a. NLT: Then the LORD rained down fire and burning sulfur from the sky on Sodom and Gomorrah.

b. NIV: Then the LORD rained down burning sulfur on Sodom and Gomorrah—from the LORD out of the heavens.

e. brimstone [1614 * gophriyth] [Strong: probably feminine of 1613; properly, cypress- resin; by analogy, sulphur (as equally inflammable):--brimstone.]

2. “…from the LORD out of heaven.”

b. out of heaven [8064 * shamayim] [Strong: dual of an unused singular shameh {shaw-meh'}; from an unused root meaning to be lofty; the sky (as aloft; the dual perhaps alluding to the visible arch in which the clouds move, as well as to the higher ether where the celestial bodies revolve):--air, X astrologer, heaven(-s).]
