d. Amplified Bible Classic: Then the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves apronlike girdles.

e. Septuagint: And the eyes of both were opened, and they perceived that they were naked, and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons to go round them.

f. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings: Then the eyes of both of them were opened and they realized that they were naked; and they sewed together a fig leaf and made themselves aprons.

1. “And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew they were naked…”

a. the eyes [Strong: 5869 * `ayin ah'-yin probably a primitive word; an eye (literally or figuratively); by analogy, a fountain (as the eye of the landscape):--affliction, outward appearance, + before, + think best, colour, conceit, + be content, countenance, + displease, eye((-brow), (-d), -sight), face, + favour, fountain, furrow (from the margin), X him, + humble, knowledge, look, (+ well), X me, open(-ly), + (not) please, presence, + regard, resemblance, sight, X thee, X them, + think, X us, well, X you(-rselves).]

b. of them both [Strong: 8147 * shnayim shen-ah'-yim dual of 8145; feminine shttayim {shet-tah'-yim}; two; also (as ordinal) twofold:--both, couple, double, second, twain, + twelfth, + twelve, + twenty (sixscore) thousand, twice, two.]

c. were opened [Strong: 6491 * paqach paw-kakh' a primitive root; to open (the senses, especially the eyes); figuratively, to be observant:--open.]

d. and they [Strong: 1992 * hem haym or (prolonged) hemmah {haym'-maw}; masculine plural from 1981; they (only used when emphatic):--it, like, X (how, so) many (soever, more as) they (be), (the) same, X so, X such, their, them, these, they, those, which, who, whom, withal, ye.]

e. knew [Strong: 3045 * yada` yaw-dah' a primitive root; to know (properly, to ascertain by seeing); used in a great variety of senses, figuratively, literally, euphemistically and inferentially (including observation, care, recognition; and causatively, instruction, designation, punishment, etc.) (as follow):--acknowledge, acquaintance(-ted with), advise, answer, appoint, assuredly, be aware, (un-)awares, can(-not), certainly, comprehend, consider, X could they, cunning, declare, be diligent, (can, cause to) discern, discover, endued with, familiar friend, famous, feel, can have, be (ig-)norant, instruct, kinsfolk, kinsman, (cause to let, make) know, (come to give, have, take) knowledge, have (knowledge), (be, make, make to be, make self) known, + be learned, + lie by man, mark, perceive, privy to, X prognosticator, regard, have respect, skilful, shew, can (man of) skill, be sure, of a surety, teach, (can) tell, understand, have (understanding), X will be, wist, wit, wot.]

f. they [Strong: 1992 * hem haym or (prolonged) hemmah {haym'-maw}; masculine plural from 1981; they (only used when emphatic):--it, like, X (how, so) many (soever, more as) they (be), (the) same, X so, X such, their, them, these, they, those, which, who, whom, withal, ye.]

g. were naked [Strong: 5903 * `eyrom ay-rome' or merom {ay-rome'}; from 6191; nudity:--naked(- ness).]

1). The first thing they realized with their physical senses was they were naked. The glory and honour they were crowned with and covered with when they were created was gone, and they knew they were naked.

a). Psalm 8:3-8 When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
8:4 What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
8:5 For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
8:6 Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
8:7 All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
8:8 The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.

2). Adam and Eve died spiritually. God had commanded and warned Adam what would happen if he ate of “the tree of the knowledge of good and evil”, he warned that Adam would “surely die”.

a). Genesis 2:16, 17  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:
2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

3). The marginal note in my Cambridge Bible reads “dying thou shalt die”. The marginal note in my Cambridge Bible reads “dying thou shalt die”. Adam died spiritually the moment he ate the fruit, but he did not die physically for 930 years: Genesis 5:5. Adam died physically only because he had already died spiritually.

4). Death is separation. Physical death is separation of the spirit from the body.

a). James 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

5). Spiritual death is separation of man’s spirit from God. Spiritual death is also a nature, the nature of Satan.

a). Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;

b). Isaiah 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.

6). The Second death is eternal separation of mans spirit from God.

a). Revelation 21:8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

7). Man became the servant of the devil.

a). Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?

8). Because man became the servant of the devil, man begins to walk according to the nature of his new master.

a). Ephesians 2:2,3 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
2:3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.

9). The “law of sin”, that Paul mentions in Romans 7: 23, that is, “the body of this death” Paul mentioned in Romans 7:24 is injected into mans spirit.

a). Romans 7:14-24 For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin.
7:15 For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I.
7:16 If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good.
7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not.
7:19 For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do.
7:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
7:21 I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.
7:22 For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:
7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.
7:24 O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?

10). Satan became the god of this world. Satan’s kingdom became established and operative in the earth through mans disobedience.

a). 2 Corinthians 4:4 In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.

b). Jesus spoke of Satan’s kingdom in Matthew 12:26 and Luke 11:18. God’s kingdom became established and operative in the earth through mans (Jesus)
obedience.

2. “…and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons.”

a. they sewed…together [Strong: 8609 * taphar taw-far' a primitive root; to sew:--(women that) sew (together).]

b. fig [Strong: 8384 * t'en teh-ane' or (in the singular, feminine) t:enah {teh-ay- naw'}; perhaps of foreign derivation; the fig (tree or fruit):--fig (tree).]

c. leaves [Strong: 5929 * `aleh aw-leh' from 5927; a leaf (as coming up on a tree); collectively, foliage:--branch, leaf.]

d. and made [Strong: 6213 * `asah aw-saw' a primitive root; to do or make, in the broadest sense and widest application (as follows):--accomplish, advance, appoint, apt, be at, become, bear, bestow, bring forth, bruise, be busy, X certainly, have the charge of, commit, deal (with), deck, + displease, do, (ready) dress(-ed), (put in) execute(-ion), exercise, fashion, + feast, (fight-)ing man, + finish, fit, fly, follow, fulfill, furnish, gather, get, go about, govern, grant, great, + hinder, hold ((a feast)), X indeed, + be industrious, + journey, keep, labour, maintain, make, be meet, observe, be occupied, offer, + officer, pare, bring (come) to pass, perform, pracise, prepare, procure, provide, put, requite, X sacrifice, serve, set, shew, X sin, spend, X surely, take, X thoroughly, trim, X very, + vex, be (warr-)ior, work(-man), yield, use.]

e. aprons [Strong: 2290 * chagowr khag-ore' or chagor {khag-ore'}; and (feminine) chagowrah {khag-o-raw'}; or chagorah {khag-o-raw'}; from 2296; a belt (for the waist):--apron, armour, gird(-le).]

1). Adam and Eve sowing together fig leaves to cover their nakedness/unrighteousness fails, as all man’s attempts to cover his unrighteousness do.

a). Isaiah 64:6 But we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags; and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.
