Leviticus 1:3

If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.

a. ASV: If his oblation be a burnt-offering of the herd, he shall offer it a male without blemish: he shall offer it at the door of the tent of meeting, that he may be accepted before Jehovah.

b. YLT: 'If his offering is a burnt-offering out of the herd -- a male, a perfect one, he doth bring near, unto the opening of the tent of meeting he doth bring it near, at his pleasure, before Jehovah;

c. Classic Amplified Bible: If his offering is a burnt offering from the herd, he shall offer a male without blemish; he shall offer it at the door of the Tent of Meeting, that he may be accepted before the Lord.

d. Septuagint: If his gift be a whole-burnt-offering, he shall bring an unblemished male of the herd to the door of the tabernacle of witness, he shall bring it as acceptable before the Lord.

e. Stone Edition Chumash: If one’s offering is an elevation-offering from the cattle, he shall offer an unblemished male; he shall bring it to the entrance of the Tent of Meeting, voluntarily, before HASHEM.

1. “If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish…”

a. b. [his] offering [Strong: 7133 qorbân, kor-bawn'; or קֻרְבָּן qurbân; from H7126; something brought near the altar, i.e. a sacrificial present:—oblation, that is offered, offering.]

c. [be a] burnt sacrifice [5930 * olah] [Strongs: to go up, ascend. (Comes from the identical Hebrew word ‘olah’ * 5766 that means evil, iniquity, perverseness, wicked.)] [Gesenius: what is laid on the altar, what is offered on the altar, ascent steps, iniquity.]

d. of [Strong: 4480 min min or minniy {min-nee'}; or minney (constructive plural) {min-nay'}; (Isaiah 30:11); for 4482; properly, a part of; hence (prepositionally), from or out of in many senses (as follows):--above, after, among, at, because of, by (reason of), from (among), in, X neither, X nor, (out) of, over, since, X then, through, X whether, with.]

e. [the] herd [Strong: 1241 bâqâr, baw-kawr'; from H1239; a beeve or an animal of the ox family of either gender (as used for plowing); collectively, a herd:—beeve, bull (+ -ock), + calf, +cow, great (cattle), + heifer, herd, kine, ox.]

f. [let him] offer [Strong: 7126 qârab, kaw-rab'; a primitive root; to approach (causatively, bring near) for whatever purpose:—(cause to) approach, (cause to) bring (forth, near), (cause to) come (near, nigh), (cause to) draw near (nigh), go (near), be at hand, join, be near, offer, present, produce, make ready, stand, take.]

g. [a] male [Strong: 2145 zâkâr, zaw-kawr'; from H2142; properly, remembered, i.e. a male (of man or animals, as being the most noteworthy sex):—× him, male, man(child, -kind).]

h. without blemish [8549 * tamiym] [Strong: entire, (lit. or fig.) without blemish, complete, full, perfect without spot, undefiled. Also a noun, integrity, truth.]

1). Louis Goldberg, Leviticus: All offerings were to be without defects of any kind; they were to conform to God’s holy character…Each of these animals was a type of the One who was to come and fulfill the meaning of animal sacrifices. Perfection in the animals was a necessary aspect of the type that demonstrated the perfect character and perfect sacrifice of the antitype, Jesus Christ.

2). Primarily, the fulfillment of the type or the “very image” is speaking of Jesus; Jesus was without blemish. but it is also speaking of us.

a). 1 Peter 1:18, 19 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;

1:19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:

3). It is also speaking about us, because we are to be without blemish in our lives before him.  

a). Philippians 2:15 That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; [blameless-without spot].

b). Ephesians 5:26, 27 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word,

5:27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish

2. “…he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.”

a. c. [of his own] voluntary will [Strong: 7522 râtsôwn, raw-tsone'; or רָצֹן râtsôn; from H7521; delight (especially as shown):—(be) acceptable(-ance, -ed), delight, desire, favour, (good) pleasure, (own, self, voluntary) will, as...(what) would.]

d. at [Strong; 413 'el ale (but only used in the shortened constructive form sel {el}); a primitive particle; properly, denoting motion towards, but occasionally used of a quiescent position, i.e. near, with or among; often in general, to:--about, according to ,after, against, among, as for, at, because(-fore, -side), both...and, by, concerning, for, from, X hath, in(- to), near, (out) of, over, through, to(-ward), under, unto, upon, whether, with(-in).

e. [the] door [Strong: 6607 pethach, peh'-thakh; from H6605; an opening (literally), i.e. door (gate) or entrance way:—door, entering (in), entrance (-ry), gate, opening, place.]

f. [of the] tabernacle [Strong: 168 ʼôhel, o'-hel; from H166; a tent (as clearly conspicuous from a distance):—covering, (dwelling) (place), home, tabernacle, tent.]

g. [of the] congregation [Strong: 4150 môwʻêd, mo-ade'; or מֹעֵד môʻêd; or (feminine) מוֹעָדָה môwʻâdâh; (2 Chronicles 8:13), from H3259; properly, an appointment, i.e. a fixed time or season; specifically, a festival; conventionally a year; by implication, an assembly (as convened for a definite purpose); technically the congregation; by extension, the place of meeting; also a signal (as appointed beforehand):—appointed (sign, time), (place of, solemn) assembly, congregation, (set, solemn) feast, (appointed, due) season, solemn(-ity), synogogue, (set) time (appointed).]

i. [the] LORD [Strong: 3068 Yᵉhôvâh, yeh-ho-vaw'; from H1961; (the) self-Existent or Eternal; Jeho-vah, Jewish national name of God:—Jehovah, the Lord.]

1). Jesus offered himself voluntarily.

a). John 10:17, 18 Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

10:18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

b). Philippians 2:7, 8 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:

2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

2). We are to do the same.

a). Romans 12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is5 your reasonable service.
