1). The background of this event needs to be mentioned. Jesus purposely only ministered to Jews.
a). Romans 15:8 Now I say that Jesus Christ was a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, to confirm the promises made unto the fathers.
b). Matthew 10:5, 6 These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritians enter ye not:
10:6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
2). Rarely Jesus ministered to Gentiles. In the case with the centurion, Jesus said yes because of the fact this centurion had been a blessing to the Jewish community in Capernaum. He loved Israel and had built a synagogue in Capernaum. I personally believe that Jesus was responding to the centurion because of the promise in Genesis 12:3. “I will bless them that bless thee…”. This centurion had blessed them and Jesus was responding because of that.
a). Luke 7:1-5 Now when he had ended all his sayings in the audience of the people, he entered into Capernaum.
7:2 And a certain centurion's servant, who was dear unto him, was sick, and ready to die.
7:3 And when he heard of Jesus, he sent unto him the elders of the Jews, beseeching him that he would come and heal his servant.
7:4 And when they came to Jesus, they besought him instantly, saying, That he was worthy for whom he should do this:
7:5 For he loveth our nation, and he hath built us a synagogue.
