Psalm 88:4

Psalm 88:4

I am counted with them that go down into the pit: I am as a man that hath no strength:

a. NLT: I am as good as dead, like a strong man with no strength left.

b. NIV: I am counted among those who go down to the pit; I am like one without strength.

c. YLT: I have been reckoned with those going down to the pit, I have been as a man without strength.

d. Amplified Bible Classic: I am counted among those who go down into the pit (the grave); I am like a man who has no help or strength [a mere shadow],

e. Septuagint: I have been reckoned with them that go down to the pit; I became as a man without help;

f. Stone Edition Torah/Prophets/Writings [Psalm 88:5]: I was reckoned with those who descend to the pit. I was like a man without strength.

1. “I am counted with them that go down into the pit…”

a. [I am] counted [Strong: 2803  chashab khaw-shab' a primitive root; properly, to plait or interpenetrate, i.e. (literally) to weave or (gen.) to fabricate; figuratively, to plot or contrive (usually in a malicious sense); hence (from the mental effort) to think, regard, value, compute:--(make) account (of), conceive, consider, count, cunning (man, work, workman), devise, esteem, find out, forecast, hold, imagine, impute, invent, be like, mean, purpose, reckon(-ing be made), regard, think.

b. with [Strong: 5973 `im eem from 6004; adverb or preposition, with (i.e. in conjunction with), in varied applications; specifically, equally with; often with prepositional prefix (and then usually unrepresented in English):--accompanying, against, and, as (X long as), before, beside, by (reason of), for all, from (among, between), in, like, more than, of, (un-)to, with(-al).]

c. them that go down [Strong: 3381 yarad yaw-rad' a primitive root; to descend (literally, to go downwards; or conventionally to a lower region, as the shore, a boundary, the enemy, etc.; or figuratively, to fall); causatively, to bring down (in all the above applications); -X abundantly, bring down, carry down, cast down, (cause to) come(-ing) down, fall (down), get down, go(-ing) down(-ward), hang down, X indeed, let down, light (down), put down (off), (cause to, let) run down, sink, subdue, take down.]

d. [into the] pit [Strong: 953  bowr bore from 952 (in the sense of 877); a pit hole (especially one used as a cistern or a prison):--cistern, dungeon, fountain, pit, well.]

1). This is the same word used in the Ezekiel 32:17-32 passage. This the second witness that establishes that this individual in in hell.

2. “...I am as a man that hath no strength:”

e. I am [Strong: 1961 hayah haw-yaw a primitive root (Compare 1933); to exist, i.e. be or become, come to pass (always emphatic, and not a mere copula or auxiliary):--beacon, X altogether, be(-come), accomplished, committed, like), break, cause, come (to pass), do, faint, fall, + follow, happen, X have, last, pertain, quit (one-)self, require, X use.]

f. [as a] man [Strong: 1397 geber gheh'-ber from 1396; properly, a valiant man or warrior; generally, a person simply:--every one, man, X mighty.]

g. [that has] no [Strong: 369 'ayin ah'-yin as if from a primitive root meaning to be nothing or not exist; a non-entity; generally used as a negative particle:--else, except, fail, (father-)less, be gone, in(-curable), neither, never, no (where), none, nor, (any, thing), not, nothing, to nought, past, un(-searchable), well-nigh, without.]

h. strength [Strong: 353 'eyal eh-yawl' a variation of 352; strength:--strength.]
